MtDLARKS Tidemarks DAY AT HAWTHORNE Hawthorne racing was again handicapped by bad track conditions the course being soft and wet although the soil through its fitness ren Oren ¬ dered deed the going safe Overhead the day was pleasant the air being warm and the sky hazy The 26 scratched horses of the 79 engaged oc ¬ casioned cushioned astonishment as owners knew what they were against when the entries were made and when the track is muddy for several days in succession all horsa hors whose names are seen on racing cards are supposedly as favorable to loose soil as a diet as the clay eaters of Georgia The crowd was the largest of the week and the seventeen regular and two field bookmakers were as usual quite willing to accomodate accommodate all public wants wantsNat wants Nat Roe opened a gap of three lengths on the others in the first sixteenth of the first race although the youngsters had got away bunched Soon Nora C shut up the daylight and ran the leader close at the turn for home where Old Fox third was dangerous and Arthur Mc Knifiht Knight also At the last eighth Nat Roe began j give it up and Nora C in brushing for the lead caromed against Arthur McKnight Mocking and careened across in front of Nat Roe so forcing Old Fox who was coming fast on the inside over into the deep going to escape a collision Old Fox was good enough however to win from Nora C and Arthur McKnight Mocking was straightened up by Bloss Loss in time to beat Nat Roe for the third place Amid handclapping handicapping Judge Rees disqualified Nora C Hundreds had seen the foul but didnt didn't kpow pow exactly how it occurred The judge questioned J Woods who rode Nora C CThe The The longexpected accident to J Reiff Riff finally occurred and until the boy was known to be uninjured the greatest excitement prevailed It was in the second race when the horses were on the far turn that Stamina was seen to be riderless rudderless and the baby jockey could not be seen The horses ran home but nine persons out of ten saw them not as their eyes were glued to the spot where the mixup mix took place Pres Ypres ¬ ently gently J Reiff Riff came to the paddock alive and well and the intense strain was relieved WR Woodard Woodward excitedly said Keep at em This baby ought not to be allowed to ride and the turf officials should not allow him to get on a horse Racing is for men not for children Many other prominent turfmen Turkmen have all along expressed like opinions to the above Stamina had led off closely attended by Belle of Memphis David being third and Idllie Billie Mark fourth the first quarter Here Elidad Elided moved up and was close to Stamina when the accident happened Belle of Memphis being in front of the Duke Wishard Wished colt With Stamina out of it only three horses were left in the race the others being already beaten Belle of Memphis was not beaten until the final eighth where David passed on winning the race hands down from Eliaad Iliad who bumping Belle of Memphis made her stop She finished however twenty lengths better than Shinfane Shinbone i Elidad Elided was disqualified so that the last named horse a bad actor that delayed the start got f money handicap resulted in a duel between RTt Ratty Dance and Plantain they finishing many lengths better than Buckvidere Duckier third who was fifty yards better than Inuendo Innuendo fourth Plan ¬ tain stain led for threeeighths when Buckvidere Duckier showed in front for a short distance Inuendo Innuendo from last place here was close to the leaders but at once fell away beaten and Cant Dance moved up Plantain went to the lead again at the middle of the upper turn where Cant Dance ID trying to come inside was cut off by Buckvidei Backside but he was goo i enough to go to the outside and win although he did not catch Plantain until the last hundred yards yardsPrestar Prestar Restart led in the fourth race until just before the turn into the homestretch where he stopped as if shot Now Dr Marks took command he had worked his way up from fourth position around the first turn Hosi Hoi Cutter and Prince Blazes had always been near the leader and the latter struck the last threesixteenth threes post with nothing to beat but Dr Marks Cass Sloan took it easy on Prince Blazes and his horse by far the best at the end won as he pleased from Dr Marks The fight for third was a hot one Hosi Hoi just managing to beat Cutter Trebor Trevor fifth was well back while the others were up the stretch stretchOConnell stethoscope OConnell O'Connell and the tip Hermoso Hermosa ran out in front and under whip and spur led until well within the home stretch where both stopped and Marcato Mercator who had been fourth up the back stretch looked all over a winnner at the last six ¬ teenth tenth when Cass Sloan came up from the fourth position with Qlenmoyne Lennon and the old Glenelg Genteel gelding flying through the mud at the finish won the race easily from Marcato Mercator OConnell O'Connell staggering gamely under his load of 125 pounds beat Hermoso Hermosa for the third money Brightie Brighten S fifth was away back St Simonian Simon was prac pac ¬ tically tidally left at the post Greyhurst Greyhounds broke but that was about all there can be said for him himPearl imperil Pearl Barnes strongly played as are all the horses of O G Parko Park who on Thursday fur ¬ nished noshed in Yo No Se such a warm thing shot to the lead and ran so fast the first three eighth that she not only was killed off but also Silver Tone the favorite who tried to fol fool ¬ low her The last quarter there was nothing left in the race but Mr Johnson and Canace Cancel and in a battle clear in the last jump was necessary to decide the winner J Hill being the stronger boy probably gave the race to Mr Johnson Genna Henna third was not even close but beat Our Nellie two lengths she a like distance ahead of L Pillott Pilot Jr Vie Lament was off badly badlyJohnny balcony Johnny Reiff Riff said I was fourth when I fell Young went down on Lillie Mark who was just ahead of Stamina and my horse fell over her Young had his collar bone broken but I was not hurt a little bit Then the midget went riding on his bicycle with his pip ¬ ing King childish voice crying to a pal Come on onJockey monocle Jockey Newcom Newcomer who was riding Redskin said I was right there with Lillie Mark and Stamina when they fell My horse stumbled over them but didnt didn't go down I hung on to his neck and regained my seat Redskin put both feet on poor J Young who was on Lillie Mark and I fear the boy is seriously injured injuredA injured A horseman said Truly J Reiff Riff escaped in ¬ jury and rode Pinochle in the next race but still it is only a question of time when so small a boy is injured for life or killed outright There was J Young an eightypound eighty boy on Lillie Mark who caused the trouble I tell you its all wrong this system of lightweights and babies riding racehorses racehorsesMr racehorses Mr Wishard Wished said It was through no fault of J Roiff Riff that the accident occurred Lillie Mark was in front of Stamina and with nothing to impede her crossed her legs or
