NOTES OF THE TURF. Starters in San Francisco have hard times. This from the Examiner of recent date is about the best that has been said of either of them for a lone time past: "There is no doubt about the ability of James B. Ferguson to start horses. He demonstrated this fact yesterday, getting off his fields in a quick and even manner. That is why there is such an uproar when he makes some of his bad starts, as the public knows he is capable of better work and naturally expects him to be on his mettle at all time3." Garnet Fergusons fourteen two-year-olds from Kentucky have arrived at Oakland sound and in good health.
