LATpNIA STAKE ENTRIES. The entries to the Latonia Jockey Club Stakes that closed January 14 are very satisfactory in every respect, except in the cases of the Derby, Oaks and Himyar Stakes of 1900. In these important fixtures there is a falling off as compared with the present year, the entries for the two yeais being as follows: 1899. 1900. Loss. Latonia Derby 128 9S 32 Latonia Oaks 107 62 45 Himyar Stakes 129 91 38- Totals 364 249 115 The Memphis Derby showed the same falling off for 1900 as compared with 1899, that event having but 85 entries for 1909 against 119 for this year, and that, too, when entrance was free, This very marked decline in number of entries to such valuable 3-year-old stakes is not easy to account for. It does not, however, necessarily indicate that the fields to start next year will be less in number or quality than those of the present year. The entries to the other stakes were as follows: Spring meeting stakes, 1899: Clipsetta Two-year-old fillies, 5-8 mile, 62 entries. Harold Two-year-old colts, 5-8 mile, 73 entries. Sensation Two-year-olds, 54 mile, 53 entries. Latonia Spring Prize Three-year-olds, handicap, 1 1-8 miles, 33 entries. Tobacco Three-year-olds and upward, sailing, 1 mile, 56 entries.
