NOTES OF THE TURF. Through William Murry, his trainer, Ed Purser bought Strongoli before he started for his last race from G. W. Scott for ,500, of which 81,000 was cash down and 00 to be paid when the colt won his first race for Purser. As the colt did this at once Scott did not have to wait long for the 00. Strongoli is by the Sydney Cup winner, Stromboli Flossie, by Flood. Capt. J. H. Rees has accepted the position of presiding steward at New Orleans. Owners and jockeys there will find him to be a gentleman with robustly developed dislike for "in and out" running and "surprising reversals" of form and a decisively enorgotic way of demonstrating it when occasion arises. He assumes his duties today. Papinta, the skirt dancer, has bought from the widow of the late "By" Holly the stallion El Rayo, by Grinstoad Sunlit, and the broodmares Franco3ca, Minnie Elkius, Kathlone, Lu-cinda, Lady Bau, Miss Jessie, Ninena and Fusil. Miss Marion has been declared out of both the Brooklyn and Suburban Handicaps. The Ally sickened badly after, her race at Oakland Saturday. .There is a letter at this office for L. Winder.
