NOTES OF THE TURF. In his last race Burns and Waterhouses fine colt Obsidian was kicked while at the post by Gualala. He ran a bad race and with good reason, as it was ascertained afterwards that two ribs were broken by the kick and the colt so hurt internally as to threaten his life. Don Luis and Frank Jaubert have been barred from running at Oakland. Their latest efforts did not fit in to suit the judges. Horses that consider betting odds seem likely to disappear from the Frisco tracks if the officials adhere to their present vigorous methods. Ed Corrigans crack Gey3er has been taking his work in great style of late and is deemed sure to start daring the present Ingleside meeting. The Memphis track is overcrowded with horses. One hundred new stalls have been completed but still there is not enough room. Messrs. Burns and Waterhouse have sold to J. Givens the bay colt Romany, 3, by Ben Strome Gypsy, by Glenlyon. F. J. Kittleman has purchased the filly, Cross-molina, 3, by Apache Play Toy, from James MacManus for ,000. Mistleton is said to be a sore, starter for the four mile Thornton Stakes. H. Martin is to ride for Gideon and Daly this year.
