GOSSIP OF THE TUKF. The following horses of J. B. Lewman, in charge of trainer P. West, are at the Memphis track: Amateur, br. c, 4, by Laureate Rehearsal. Glad Hand, b. f, 3, by Deceiver Enquiry. It is said that "Father Bill" Dalys contract with OConnors elders for the boys services called for a salary of 5 for the first year, 0 for the second, 5 for the third, 00 for the fourth and 50 for the fifth. Also 5 for each winning mount and 0 for each time he rode second or third, outside mounts to be his own. Sam Lucas, who has developed into the most promising sire owned at Marcus Dalys Bitter Root stock farm, is only eight years old. He was bred by the late August Belmont and is a bay horse by The 111 Used, son of Breadalbane and Ellermire. The dam of Sam Lucas is Mehallah by Kingfisher, a son of Lexington. Corrigan-bred two-year-olds have won about half of tho races for horses of their ages so far run over the San Francisco tracks. Loch Katrine, Innovator, Jennie Riley, and Golden Rule have all performed creditably, and the last-named may be a crack as he broke the track record at his first start Monday. The Jockey Club has as yet taken no action in the way of selecting track officials for the present year, from which it is inferred the staff will remain as it was last season, with the possible addition of a board of salaried stewards, of which C. H. Pettingill and J. J. Burke are favorably spoken of as probable members.
