Happy Sally II., ran one of his best races yesterday at Harlem, and at one mile and a quarter easily disposed of Harry Nutter, who a few days previous had easily beaten bim at the same distance. That day, however, Silvers, with a broken collar bone, rode, or attempted to ride. Jolly Roger, while yesterday Beauchamp was up, and, hustling the colt along all the wayfc he did not give him a chance to sulk or even think of it. After the race the always buBy scandalmonger was around explaining how Harry Nutter had beaten Jolly Roger so many lengths in :06i and then how Jolly Roger came right back and in 2:06 galloped away from Harry Nutter. There was no complaint about the latter not running his race, but how the other colt could improve bo suddenly, they could not understand. The fact of the matter is that Jolly Roger, when ridden by a competent boy, or when he doea not sulk, can beat Harry Nutter doing anything. At leapt, judging from the betting in yesterdays event, the talent mnst think so, as Jolly Roger was a red-hot favorite and heavily backed at even money, while Harry-Nutter was almost always as good as 7 to 5, There was little of interest or excitement in the race. Jolly Roger went to the front shortly after passing the stand the first time and holding the race safe from there, on, won running away. Jockey Tom Burns started in in real earnest and won three of the six races. His winning mounts were Wig, Mocorito and Georgie, and on the first and last named horses he was obliged to display his highest measure of skill to win. Wigs victory was in the first event and it must be credited strictly to Burns good riding. He beat Emma M., a 100 to 1 chance, but with, riders reversed the latter would have won off by herself. She was ridden by Dominick, and when the pinch came the little boy became flurried and let Wig beat him by a nose on the post. Dominick in his effort to help the filly at the finish instead of being of any assistance was a hindrance. Had he sat still and let the filly do her best on her own courage she would, have won. Wig was heavily backed at about 7 to 5 and after the race Burns was given a great ovation. Burns handling of Georgie in the fourth race was very clever work. This is a filly with a smart turn of speed but she possesses very little stamina and has always, in her races around, here, given it up when anything challenged her in the stretch, but somehow or other Burns coaxed her along, and by clever hand riding-managed to make her last long enough to win by about a length from Tenole and Harry Tho-barn in the faBt time of l:13h This is the bast race Georgie ever ran. Kensington was an 8 to 5 favorite for the race but finished fifth, not: beaten more than n length and a half all told. After the race Mr. Rogers, who trains Kensington, tried bard to impress those near him with, the idea that the filly was outclassed. Lovable, in the fifth race, which was at three-quarters for two-year-olds, won in a very game and sensational way. The filly was backed con-1 sistently at 5 to 1 and her win was a very popu-L lar one. Considering the game struggle she made through the stretch any lover of a race-, horse would have been compelled to applaud her. Yoloco jumped out in the lead at the start and when headed for home he was three lengths in front of Lovable and was apparently going easily. On the other hand Lovable was under OOKTINtJHD ON BSOOND P1.GB. BURNS GOOD RIDING. Continued from 1st Page. i pressure. Flick was riding as hard as be knew how and it did not seem possible that the filly had a chance to get up. She did, though, and gaining inch by inch just managed, in he last j stride, to poke her nose in front. Mocorito appeared to be in a soft spot in the second race and when it was seen that Burns was up aha seemed almost a certainty. Her opening price was 6 to 5, but thiB was soon cut to even money. Later she receded to 11 to 10. As i it had seemed on paper Mocorito was a cer" tainty and she won as she pleased from Violet J Parsons and McAlbert. Andes was backed heavily in the last race, but j after leading for three-quarters he collapsed, i and at the end was a distant third to Kings Highway and Garland Barr. Kings Highway ; was as good as 30 to 1. He was well backed all three ways by close observers of form. The afternoon was perfect for racing, a crowd of 6,000 was out, and the track was lightning fast.
