NOTES OK THE TUBF. The directors of the Western Turf Association have decided to construct a six-f arlong straightaway at Tanforan Park, which it is proposed to make the fastest three-quarters in the world. It will ba made wide enough to permit the etartingof twenty or twenty-five horses without the slightest inconvenience. The straightaway course will be used principally for the 2-year-old races, so there will be no interference, as in the case on a circular track. With the closing of the Fort Erie track Messrs. Bennett and Austin dropped out of the Parmer-Hendri9 syndicate. Bannett and Austin have been conducting the batting rings at the various tracks on the Canadian Circuit, baton account of a disagreement over the Windsor meeting they withdrew their interests and will not have anything to do with the batting privileges at that track Cincinnati Enquirer. Edward Corrigan shipped from Lexington Tuesday the remainder of his thoronghbrels. Corrigans horses go direct to California via Chicago. He recently sold Riley and the majority of his brood mares to Applegate and Mc-Meekin, and with this shipment be discontinues his breeding interests in Kentucky, Col. Hugh R. Baker will ship C. C. Maffitts string to Latonia Friday. Jockey Southard will accompany the string to tho Cincinnati track. Colonel Baker intends to take nine horses to Latonia, including Fireside, Gibraltar, Oaric II., Sir Rolla and Tom Collins. The yearlings will ba loft hero. St. Louis Republic. W. B. Jennings has engaged jockey George Odom, the bast lightweight on the American turf, to ride for him at San Francisco the coming winter. Jennings string is headed by the sensational sprinter Bjndoraa. Odom is to ride for the Whitney-Pagat string next year ata retainer of S10.0CO. Arthur Newsumhas arrived at Latonia with Middle ton and Jungbluths stable. Hardy Durham is another recent arrival at Latonia from Chicago. Jo:k-y Jesse Mathaws. who rides for Durham, has gone to his home in Indiana for a short rest, prior to the opaning of the Latonia nioetirg. The groat race mare Imp has a terrific appetite She eats twelve quarts of oats at a fead, and, like most great horses, she is as big a glutton at her fojd as she is in Lnr work. Her bahavior around tho stable is perfect. She sleeps soundly until bix in the morning. Crnsader is the name bestowed on Imps half-brother that will be introduced to the racing-world next year. Ho iB by Palestine Fondling aud is said to have given satisfactory evidence of possessing a high measure of the electric speed that has made Imp so famous. As a ro3ult of the sale at tho Fort Erie racetrack Tuesday, the following horses went to new owners: Pharoah to George Headrie, 50; Cattle King to E. S. Gardmr, 03; Tampion to George Hendrie, 75; Bertha E. to MDaVis, 5, and Kalala to W. McDanielsi 5? -. e Imp did a good trialati-SheeDshead Bay Wednesday. With Peto Clay in .thesaddle the Suburban and Brighton Handicaj was sent the mile nnd a quartor roatoinr2:llJ. The mile was reeled off in 1:43, and tkergreat black racer showed to advantage throughout the trip. - Sir Gatian is back again in Abo Cahns stable. The Victory, three-year-old, his been gelded, and his owner thinks he will make a useful parformer next season. j The Fort Erie jadgjs suspended jockey Flint, indefinitely for an unsatisfactory ride on Branch in the first race Wednesday, i R.
