LAKEIDK RACING. OConnell, Algareta and May Beach treated the big crowd at Lakeside yesterday to one of the most interestirg and closest finishes seen aronnd Chicago this season. T e tr;o met in the thiid event, which was at five and a half furlongs, and in a fog so dense that only the finish of the race cnld be teen by the specators. They had a tremendous battle all the way. Daily Bacing Form bad four competent men stationed at oilier en t comers of the track, and each of them reported that the trio bad it hammer and tongs all the way. From tbe eighth post home the crowd was able to see tbe three sprinters lighting bard for every inch of ground, and tbe contest broueht forth a hearty found of applause. The tiio fini-h d on tbe extreme outside of the course, and ODly the j adzes could tell correctly which one of them won, but tbey were prompt in hangingout OConnella number. The big, ancient son of Harry OFallon May Kennedy was an odds-oa choice at 7 to 10 and colbp qnently bis victory was popular. Conley rode OConnell and it was his smooth work at the bead of the stretch that won the race. At this point CoDley bumpfd into and cairied . Algareta and May Beach to tbe extreme out-Bido. The interference knocked both fillies off their stride and by the time they recovered tbe wrire was reached ana OConnell was tbe winner. No foul was claimed against OConnell and ontside of a seveie reprimand the judges let Conley go and the race stand as the horses finished. Outside of tbe OConnell rousing finish the other races were not sb arply contested, all of the other winners having something in reserve. Harry Nutters sudden awakoning started tbe scandal-monger goirg, but as be is an in and outer of tbe worst kind no action was taken in tbe affair, and his quick improvement must be charged to tbe general uncertainties of racing. After winning tbe Ecccnd event, Yoloco was run up to 00 by Albert Simons. The colt was entered for 00 and his owner stood the raise. F Smith, trainer of tbe horse Astor, has been suspended on account of tbe inconsistent running of tbe horse Tbe judgps further recommended that Smiths license be revoked.
