Morning Telegraph of Saturday sayB: "A rumor was current yesterday that Mr. Whitney had decided to retire his trainer, Sam Hildreth, and to place a part of his horses in the hands of Tom Welch and the balance with Peter Wim-mer. When seen last night Mr. Paget said there was no truth at all in the story of Hil-dreths retirement. Hildreth is still the trainer for the stable, said Mr. Paget, but we have so many horses how that we have concluded to give a few of the yearlings to Mr. Welch and some of the older ones to Peter Wimmer. That is all there is to the story." The California Jockey Club haB under contemplation the giving of another big stake. It is to be a cuplrace at two and one-quarter miles. T. C. McDowell Bold to Elliott Cowden, of New York, the yearling filly Luzon, by Lamplighter Kittj Clive, for ,500.
