NOTES OF THE TUBF. At Bennings, Thursday, Dayfon, who had the monnt on Tentore, :he 31 to 1 fancy, found bis horse running too prominently on the Becond circuit and endeavored to make him run the wrong c ourse by pulling him around a jnmp. The horse resisted gamely, and in his struggle to keep within the flags fell over the eiae wing fence le adicg to tbe obstacle iu question. The stewards promptly ordered the indefinite suspension of the offending jockey, and will report his case to the National Hunt and Steeplechase Association "Virginia" Carroll supplied an exciting feature of the last days racing at Bennings. Carroll, during the interval between the second and third races, applied an offensive remark to a Washingtonian, who was scanning the Carroll prices. The stranger promptly knocked the big Virginian off the quotation chair, and a miniatnre Donnybrook Fair szone f llowed. When the police rescued Carroll the latter closed his book for the day. Beport has it that jockey Tommy Burns will soon join the ranks of the New Orleans riders. He is at present under contract to Messrs. Burns and Waterhouee, but it is understood that, by mutual agreement, he will be released. Burns has a large following among race-goers, and his retnrn to New Orleans will be welcomed by his friends. It was the intention of Thompson Bros, to start their good two-jear-old, Sidney Lucas, in the Inaugural Handicap. They had made all arrangements to ship the colt, bat through a misunderstanding the train connection at Washington was missed, much to Messrs. Thompsons chagrin. New Orleans Picayune. In the seventeen days of the Bennings meeting eighty-eight races were run off.- W. Oliver waa the principal winning owner, his horses earning him in stakes and purses ,780. Thompson Brothers, F. D. Beard, W. M. Barrick, T. J. HealyandP. J. Sullivan each secured upward of ,000 in purseB. Dr. Rexford has bought Ducat from Ed Corrigan. The old horse is being given work at Ingleside daily and his new owner expects to have him ready for a race at the next Tanforan meeting. Barbee and Jones have bought from John E. Madaen the chestnut Btallion Handsel, by HanoverTarantella. He won the White Plains Handicap and other stakes. The price is private. Woodard and Shanklins sale at Lexington cloeed Thursday with the record of having disposed of a total of 157 hortes for 8,110, an average of 3193.50. J. H. Smith has sold the useful colt Jackanapes to J. F. Davis for whom he Bhould prove a good bread winner at New Orleans this winter. G. W. Pooles veteran Egbari died at New Orleans a day or two ago. He was a good racehorse when sound and in his prime. Fred Foster has presented his game old campaigner, Sullross, to Clarence Waterhouse as a recognition of several favors.
