NOTK8 OF THE TURF. It is reported that the next meeting at Tan-foran will be of three weeks duration, bsgin-ning Monday, January 1. This arrangement of dates was made bo that the new club should get at least one of the big holidays. As it is, the Oakland people have moBt of the holidays for this season. Tanforan dates then will be January 1 to 20 ; Oakland J anuary 22 to February 10, inclusive. After that the clubs will alternate every two weeks, as heretofore. Thirty-eight yearlings from A. B. Spreckels Napa farm were sold at San Francisco Thursday, the average price- being 0, as against 08 for 1898 and 36 for 1897. Barney Schreiber and E. W. Parser were among the principal purchasers. At a meeting of the stewards of the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association held laBt Thursday Mr. W. C. Whitney was elected a member of the Association. Muldoon and Hogan, from whom San Durango was claimed for 00 by H. Robinson the other day, have bought the speedy gelding back at an advance of 00.
