The first two were under keen pres- ; sure. Percita, under a good, strong hand ride at the end, outgamed Lunar. Castro did a clever bit of jockeyship through the stretch. Riders reversed, Lunar would have won. Wedderstrand had a commanding lead at the eighth post, but when he felt the filly tiring under him he got rattled, and when he drew his whip he dropped Lunars head and allowed her to swerve all over the track. Bequeath ran consistently. He was on the outside of his field all the way. There was a general mixup on the first turn and after that the field was badly strung out. Nancy Seitz and Trebor both finished stoutly. Overweights— Lunar, 1 pound ; Wiggins, 24 ; Siler, 3. Percita, place, 8 to 1 ; show, 3 to 1. Lunar, place, 6 to 5; show, 1 to 2. Ethel Wheat was the best and ran a fine race. She was far back at the start, but Howell wasted no time and rode the filly hard to get up in the first quarter. At the head of the stretch she faltered for an instant, but came again like a Hash when the whip was applied. Lelia Barr did well, but tired badly at the end. Queen Dixon and Ida Quicklime were both pulled up at the start. Royal Morsel broke flying and showed a lot of speed early. When she tired she swerved badly. Eldred ran a good race. Tiie race was run just to suit Free Advice. He was well ridden. Powers trailed the other pair to the stretch and then made his run. Chopin ran a good race. He stopped and then came again under punishment in the stretch. Strangest went to the post stiff and sore. He showed some speed but hardly ran his race. Scratched— 17635Tlie Pride, 101. Went to post at 4 :15. Off at the first break to a good start. Won easily. There was considerable action behind the winner. Bill Massie ran under a double pull all the way and made his field look cheap. There never was a spot in the road where he could not have gone to the front. Tony Lepping got badly interfered with at tbe start and again on the far turn. He stood this gamely and finished strongly under a weak ride. Battus ran a good race. So did Ben Mac Dhui as far as he went. Tristrain is a good looker and has worked well. Bill Massie, place. 2 to 5 ; show, out. Tony Lepping, place, 2 to 1 ; show, 4 to 5. Miller came near getting badly shut off on the far turn, but by using good judgment and being favored with good racing luck, he escaped interference and from tbe three furlongs post home Trimmer had everything his own way. Maidstone got a running start and looked dangerous for a time down the back stretch but at tbe end she tired. False Lead finished strongly. Baffled was tired out in the first half. Lord Neville broke running on the outside and smothered his field for speed. He is a fast horse now and at his best. The field was badly strung out all the way. Aurea was running fast at the finish. Free Lady could never get within hailing distance of the winner. Martha Street ran a good race. Rosy Morn showed plenty of speed, but was worn out chasing Lord Neville in the first part of the race and quit badly in the stretch.
