Connie liked the mud and carried Lambkin to defeat in the first half and then held the lead to the end without serious trouble. Bowen ran well, but was unlucky and had to squeeze his way through on the inside rail. William Ack went wide on all the turns and hung when it came to a drive. Maximo Gomez was under restraint during the first three-quarters but the weight told on him at the end. Dan Rice showed much early speed but tired badly in the last furlong.
