Heliobas broke running on the inside rail and was under restraint until the last sixteenth, when OConnor gave him his head, and he drew away without an effort. Belle of Lexington showed plenty of speed, but stopped as if short near the finish. Montanic and Modrine were on the outside. He had to be hustled along to get to the front. Buffoon gradually worked his way to the leaders. He had to go all around his field. Her Ladyship had every advantage. She was on the inside and got away well in motion, but Bullman made too much use of her in the early stages and she tired in the last eighth. Post Haste and Premature were stopping. The latter was probably short. Precursor faltered at the end. He was on the outside all the way. Tommy Atkins and Bellario drew away from their field in the stretch and fought it out through the last sixteenth. The latter was outrun in the early stages and ran a line race. Prince of Melrose after moving up strongly faltered in the last sixteenth. He appears like the improving sort. Prince Pepper showed early speed but could not carry it far enough. Handwork was cut off after going a quarter and Taral had to pull up. He never got to running again. Telemon was eased up when beaten. Scratched— Irritable, 122; Baron Pepper, 122; Tom Kenny, 122. It is possible that Ronkonkoma would have won had she stood up. The Srst three were very tired at the end. Dave S. fenced and ran finely until he fell at the liverpool.
