Miss Shanley was a good filly today. She was prominent in all breakaways and I much used at the post, but this did not seem to hurt her, and she fairly ran away from her field, j Talala was well handled and made a good showing. The Light ran her best race but was out- ] classed. First Past was shut off and sharply interfered with shortly after the start. Invictus is a fairly good colt that improves with racing. Hewasnever fully extended and always held the others safe. Small Jack was badly ridden and also suffered from poor racing luck. He was pocketed until the stretch was reached but when he got clear he finished strongly. Tristrain is a good looker and will improve from this race. Moody and Ethel Wheat were both tangled up at the start. The filly went the long route and about ran her race. Queen Litze is fast and also a handsome looker but is not a stayer. Tom Collins broke running on the outside and smothered his field for speed. He looked slick and fit to run for a Kingdom. Rumor had it that lie was stimulated. Scrivener ran above his mark. Compensation was jammed into and interfered with on the first turn. He never really got on his stride again until the stretch was reached. Then he ran over the horses in front of him. Sir Blaze also closed stoutly. John Bakers race was not up to the mark. He was roughly ridden. Rose had him in and out and all over the track. Oak Maid ran well as far as she went. It was a very fast race and a track record. Scratched— 17646 Manlius, 96. Overweights — Scrivener, 5 pounds; Compensation, 11; Tragedy, 2. Tom Collins, place, 5 to 1 ; show, 2 to 1. Won in a long, hard drive; second and third were driving as hard. Censor is a game colt and had to be to win. He was carried -wide and badly interfered with by Lightning Flash on the stretch turn. The latter showed a fine turn of speed, but when pressed she staggered all over the track. Donna Seay was outrun in the first part of the race, but she skinned the rail at the head of the stretch and finished like a cyclone. Tanforan quit badly in the last sixteenth. Bellamy was badly ridden. Roee was many lengths in front going down the backst retch, but for some ! unknown reason be was whipping and forcing the gelding tor ail he was worth.
