Went to post at 2:30. At post ll minutes. Start straggling. The first three were driving hard. The Auditor won through sheer gameness. He was under pressure from start to finish and stood it like a veteran. Had Isobel been of much account she could not have lost. The starter sent her away flying two lengths in front of the others. School for Scandal ran a good race but hung a bit at the end. At one time in the stretch she was a half length in front. Bob Baker had no chance from where he got off. Mark him. He has worked fast and has a good private reputation. Royal Morsel was practically left and Devin never made a move on her. Scratched — 17679 Queen oDay, 105. Winner— B. h, by Tea Tray— La Belle Juive. Went to post at 3:15. At post 4 minutes. Start fair. Won easily ; the next three were under pressure. Samovar was the best and held his field safe all the way. Vandusen waited on Beekman to the half, and then passed him like a flash. Possum, under a good ride, ran a good race and finished stoutly. The ride on Compensation was clumsy. Kitley seemed afraid going around the first turn and lost a golden opportunity to gain a good position. On his own courage and with the reins flapping on his neck Compensation was galloping over horses in front of him at the end. Beekman flattered his backers for about three-quarters and then quit badly. Clara Meader did not seem to have any speed in the first part of it, but finished stoutly. Samovar, place, out. Possum, place, 2 to 1: show, 4 to 5. Compensation, show, evens. I rj rj O kl THIRD RACE— 4 1-3 Furlongs. Purse 00. 2-year-olds. Selling. Winner— Br. f, by Likely— Illisee. Went to post at 3 :40. At post 7 minutes. Start good. Won cleverly ; second, third and fourth were driving to the limit. Likeness ran a fine race and canae away like a good one in the stretch. She was well handled and in the best going all the way. Ep had no excuses. She got a flying start and nothing ever bothered her. Win kfield used poor judgment by taking the filly in close to the rail in the stretch, but she was beaten when he made this mistake. Esther Riggs was all tangled up at the start and never really got straightened out until the stretch was reached. Then she finished with a rush. Tenletta showed a lot of speed but hit herself on the stretch turn and Crowhurst had to ease her up. Scratched— 17701 Vesalius, 103; 17705 Mattie Bain, 96; 17705 Annie Louise, 96. Winner— B. g, by Jim Gray— Fearless. Went to post at 4 :20. At post 4 minutes. Start excellent. Won in a long, hard drive of two; third was driving also. Grayless barely lasted long enough to win. He dislikes a route and stopped badly below the sixteenth post. Loves Labor ran a good race and with a stronger ride at the end would have won. Celeritas likes a soft track and ran a fairly good race. Mac Fleck- noe showed a sharp turn of speed but could not carry it far. The same may be said of Barrica. It was a bad lot to be contesting for a stake. The first two ran locked all through the last sixteenth and fought desperately for every inch of ground. Boland rode a poorly judged race on Eitholin. He made his run too soon and for some unknown reason brought the horse down on the inside throughout the stretch where the going was deep and sticky. Beaiui was well handled and ran a good, game race. Little Billy was shut off numerous times. Scratched— 17636 Windward, 104; 16301 Virgie O., 101. Overweights— Beana, 2 pounds: Kilt, 3. Lord Zeni was a good horse today and Vandusen rode him to perfection. He loafed in behind Handpress to the stretch and then went on about bis business. Had Vandusen so chosen ho could have won further off. Crocket is not in her best form ami was never dangerous.
