1 1 1 ! ■ 1 [ , j . READY AT HARLEM, Every indication points to a highly successful meeting at Harlem. The attendance at Hawthorne, despite the drawbacks of unfavorable weather and the resultant heavy track, has been remarkable. It points to the fact that money is abundant and people having it are eager to pay for well conducted open air amusements. Elaborate preparations have been made by the Harlem officials to provide racing up to the best western standard, and if the weather remains as it now is it may be set down as guaranteed in advance that the new Harlem grandstand will be taxed to its utmost capacity Saturday, when the meeting is to open. The track was in fairly good condition Wednesday evening in spite of the heavy rain of the morning and under the influence of hot sunshine of Thursday it improved rapidly and will be at its best tomorrow if no more rain falls in the interim. Secretary Nathanson and assistant secretary Chivington are at the track each day directing a force of clerks in the work of their department. Applications for owners badges, etc., have been unusually heavy and Secretary Nathanson cautions all owners who have not received such badges to apply for them at once, The finishing touches to the steeplechase course were made Wednesday in the shape of a bridge leading to the course. Work upon the minor details of the new grandstand and betting ring is rapidly being pushed and by Saturday nothing of importance will be incomplete. Secretary Nathanson has received telegrams from W. H. May and Son and from Turney Bros., at Gravesend. They stated that each firm would ship a stable of ten horses to Harlem next week. Among the horses of W. H. May and Son, that have raced this year and shown well, are: Bob Baker, gr. c, 2; Ed Tipton, b. c, 4; Ep, b-f,2; Luego, b. c, 2 ; The Elk, b. c, 2 ; The Rush, b. c. 3 ; Tildy Ann, b. f. 3, and Avenstoke, b. c. 3.
