Hermoso is in fine form, liked the dead track, and -smothered his field for speed. _ He is hard to beat at three quarters, when at his best, and is also a good weight carrier. Dr. Walmsley ran consistently. Narvaez rode him for all he was worth allt he way. Miss Shanley ran to the mark and hung on more gamely than usual. Rinaldo II. finished with a terrific rush and can be marked for early action at a longer route. Banuockburn , looked high and was hardly up to a bruising race. Buchanan took him the longest route. Sly a thawed considerable speed early, but quit badly in the stretch and was perhaps short. Hermoso, place, 8 to 5: show, 3 to 5. Dr. Wamsley, place, 2 to 1 ; show, evens. Miss Shanley. show. 8 to 5. At post 4 minutes. Start poor. Won easily at the end after a hard early drive; second and third were doing their best. Garry Hermann again showed his superior quality. He was the best and had to be to win, and in doing so he displayed great gameness. i The colts forte is going a route and in this race he had to be hard ridden all the way to keep up. in fact Boland drew ins whip at the three-eighths post and punished the colt hard until he got to the front, which was not until in the last hundred yards. Battus ran to the mark and is most consistent. Matin beat the barrier and had he possessed much stamina he could not have lost. As it was he showed a lot of speed, but quit badly in the last furlong. Luerana had no chance j to win from where she got away, but she ran a good race. The Cuban Girl showed speed, but not j her usual amount. Winner— B. g, by Strathmore— Eloise. Went to post at 3 :25. Off at the first break to a good start. Won driving and out to the last ounce ; second, third and fourth were also driving to the limit. Oxnard broke well on his stride and showed a lot of speed. Rose made every post a winning one and it was well that he did for the gelding was tiring badly. Both The Bobby and Thomas Carey ran better than the winner. The Bobby was poorly ridden, also had bad racing luck and from the three-furlong post made up a lot of ground. Thomas Carey got into a bad jam on the first turn. Waldo had to pull him up 1 almost to a standstill and run around all the other horses. Walkenshaw had no excuses. Astor was raced into subjection by Oxnard in the first three-quarters and when he stopped he stopped he stopped all over. Oxnard. place. 6 to 1 ; show. 3 to 1. Winner B. f, by Scorpion — Linderlette. Went to post at 3 : . At po-t 3 minutes. Start good. Won driving and staggering and out , to the last ounce ; second the same ; third and fourth also had a battle royal. Larkspur improved 1 suddenly since her last out and under a good ride ran a cracking good race. She and Fly by • Night had a bumping match all through the stretch. The latter was the first offender and consequently . Buchanans claim of foul was ignored by the judges. Better ridden. Fly by Night I could not have lost. Buchanan made altogether too much use of him down the backstretch and 1 naturally when the pinch came he had nothing left to finish with. This is a good horse and seems to be in good form. The first two always had the race between them. Cold Fox seemed 1 to be handicapped by the going. Molo ran his usual honest race and Barrack made a good 1 showing. Bishop Reed retired early. Neither Brisk nor Sam Fallen showed much speed. In fact t the latters race was a bad one. Larkspur, place, G to 1 : show, 3 to 1. Fly by Night, place, 6 to 5; show. 3 to 5. Went to port at 4 :30. Off at the first break to a good start. Won easily; there was keeu action behind the winner, Bangle broke from the rear Hying, had clear sailing ran kindly and made his field look cheap. He is a horse of good class, but has the habit of sulking, but under r Boland he was on his good behavior. Graziella improved a lot since her last race at Hawthorne e and showed a Hash of her best form. Brulare was a contender all the way and can win when n placed right. Star Chime was bumped and jostled and did not near run his race. Sidbow w showed but little speed and can do better. Emma M. is a speedy filly, but hanging to Bangle in n the first part of the race caused her to quit when the pinch came in the stretch. Scratched— 18289 George Krats, 111; 18352-Johu A. All Gold, under a good ride, ran a good, game race. Knight used good judgment in not drawing his whip at the end and rode a clever finish with his hands. Eva Rice perhaps should have won. Devin let Knight steal away from him in the stretch and was a trilfe overconfident. Donna Rita improves with every start and should be able to win a purse soon. She was coming very strong at the finish. Malay was handicapped by a poor ride and also had bad racing luck. This is not his race. Orimar was shy of • * speed and ran below the mark.
