Sam Fullen improved suddenly from his last race and on a track exactly to his c liking showed a touch of his real form. Silvers rode a good race on the colt, bringing him up with a rash in the strateh. The route wa a trilie too far lot Modrine. He showed fine speed, I however, and it in wiuiiiug form. Bullman. perhaps, used him too much in the first part of the ] race and when challenged in tlie stretch he had nothing to respond with. Larkspur ran to her , mark, so did The Lady, who seemed dangerous in the stretch. Hannockburu was shut off a half dozttn times during the race. He also twang wide on the stretch turn, losing much trround. Lo- 1 mood need what speed he had in the first of the race and then retired. Owensboro was out- ] classed and finished when lie belonged. i Scratclied-18701Wax, 107. Corrected weights— The Lady. 102. Sam Fullen, place. 24 to 1; show, evens. Winner— Ch. c, by Hanover— Keepsake. Went to post at 3:10. Off at the first break to a good start, Won hand ridden and out to the last ounce; second and third were under keen pressure. Reminder was lucky, well ridden and barely lasted long enough to win. He is a fine colt and has a good turn of speed, but apparently possesses out little staying power. Devin hugged the rail and took the shortest route and for a wonder did not become rattled when the pinch came, but rode a clever finish with his hands, j Mr. Brown is a good looker and is quite a race horse. Fly By Night was outrun in the first part of the race, but at the end was overhauling the leaders rapidly, and had the race been a furlong ] further he would have won. Nobleman ran a fairly good race; so did Josephine B. Both Pupil , and Hermosoquit early. Scratched— 18614 Rhinelander, H»J 18090 tLimelight, 112. Overweights- Pupil, 24 pounds. Winner— Ch. c, by Top Gallant— Addie C. II. Went to post at 3:57. Off at the second break to a perfect start. Won eased up; second and i third the same. Sidney Lucas liked the going, was lucky and ridden to perfection. Bullman i picked the best going all the way, also avoided all interference, and never made a move until the stretch was reached. Then he shot the colt to the front like a flash. James had no excuses and ran as good a race as could be expected from him. Mitchell may have used him too much in the first part of the race. Still the pace was slow and the colt seemed to be moving easily in front. Lieutenant Gibson filled badly at the end. He was very rank and could have gone to the front j at any time. Boland used poor judgment in not letting bim do so, as there is where the Lieutenant l races best. On the turn for home Boland let Lieutenant Gibson down, but the colt had nothing left I to respond with and fell back beaten. James and Sidney Lucas closed in on Lieutenant Gibson i at the head of the stretch, sharply pinching him off, but the colt was beaten at the time of the interference and no notice was taken of it. Barrack ran his race and at the end closed stoutly. Advance Guard labored in the goiug all the way and was never dangerous. He must have a hard, I fast track to do his best. Burns rode Sam Phillips hard in the first part of the race, but when he saw the colt was beaten he eased him up. Winner— Ch. h, by St. Blaise— Susquehanna. Went to post at 4 :40. At post 4 minutes. Start good. Won easing up; second and third ridden out. The going was to Great Bends liking, and he was never fully extended. Kiley got his horse away lying, took the shortest route, and was satisfied not to draw the finish fine. Moroni I ran a good race and is in his best form. Orion closed stoutly from the head of the stretch home. So did Brisk, who can be marked for early action. Onomastus was evidently short, and after ir showing a lot of speed quit badly in the stretch. Patroou, considering that he has not faced the e starter for some time, ran a good race. Criterion is a smashing, good colt and smothered his field for speed. He is a speed marvel and impressed every one with his race. Alard Scheck is as game as a pebble and under a powerful ride at the finish got up just in time to win second place. Sofala beat the barrier, but did not run to her best form, although her race was far from being a bad one. The ie first three outclassed the others. J inline/, can win in slower company.
