Won easily; second, third and fourth driving to the limit. Bengal was lucky, well ridden and liked the dead going, and came 3 away on call in the .-tretch. The Elk got away fully iu his stride, but hung at the end and barely lasted lout; enough to be second. William Bover ran away about three furlougs in his preliminary, but this did not seem to have any bad effect on him and he ran a good race. Fairy Prince J was right there all the way. Start good for all but La Josephine who refused to 1 break. Won clevorly. The next three were under keen pressure. Lennep was cleverly ridden. Knhn picked the going, avoided all interference and stole a march on the other boys on the far turn. The mare seems to be in her best form at present. Found ran a good rice and hung on , longer than usual. Headwater ran the best race and with clear sailing could not have lost. He 5 got into a pocket when going down the backstretch and lost much ground on the turns. Great t Bend skinned the rail when turning into the stretch and seemed dangerous at the eighth post I but died away at the end. Highland Lad made a good showing. Algareta was in a pocket all 1 the way. Hermoso ran a fast half then quit badly. Scritched-19?69-Scarlet Lily. 91; 19733-iTuthill. 103; 20115 Nobleman. 107; 19877Hilee. 104. Won handily at the end after a hard 1 early drive. Second, third and fourth wore close together and driving to the limit. Silurian J was the best and had to be to wi . He was away poorly, had bad luck early, but came through the stretch like a stake horse. Satin Coat ran a cracking good race, making up a lot of ground from a poor beginning and hung on gamely through the stretch uuder pressure. Princess Tat-yaua broke flying and showed a lot of speed but when challenged i|uit badly. Woodstick finished j with a tremendous rush and would have been third iu a few more strides. The next Emu were doing their best. The Unknown is a cracking good colt ana seems at present j to be in his best form. Tally rode a good race up to the time the stretch was reached, where he I used miserable judgment in drawing his whip and let the colt swerve badly. The Lady is an honest, consistent filly, and ran one of her best races. She was lucky in getting away flying and was about the only starter not interfered with on the first turn. At this point there was a general mix-up and Eva Rice and Florlzar were almost thrown over the fence. The former was, perhaps, - the best, but after being so badly interfered with Narvaez made up his lost ground too rapidly and rode a poor race generally. Molo is becoming good. Dissolute hardly ran his race; ; neither did Tuthill. who was none too well ridden. Scratched— 19and09 Mint Sauce, 101 ; 19876 Miss Mae Day. 103. Overweights — Tuthill, 5 pounds. Winner— Ch. g. by Fouso — Miss Nannie. Went to po t at 4 :"4. At post 4 minute . Start good. Won cleverly; second hand ridden; third and fourth were hard at it. Frangible was lucky, well handled and had the speed necessary to win in reserve when Hick called upon him. Hansford did not bleed, had clear sailing, plenty of :-peed and everything considered did as well as he is capable of doing. Kentucky Babe 3 ran a surprisingly good race. Oweusboro had bad racing luck throughout. Lady Meddlesome siitlered from bad Dandling and besides was a trifle short. This was far from being her race and considering tin- company sue wa.- iu with her price was entirely too long. Thomas Carey made B up ground throughout. Maharajah was in sight passing the hall Uiilo ground then quit badly. . The same can be said of Microscope. Scratched— 200."4 Marjlaud Reserve. 9." ; 20110 Joephiue B.. 103: 20O24 Lomond, 89. Winner— B. g. by Bb.zes— Bettie Prince. Went to post at 5:25. At po6t 6 minutes. Start good. Won in a long, hard drive of two; third and fourth were doing their best. Prince Blazes awoke with a sudden start and showed a touch of his best 1899 form. His improvement was almost too sudden to be healthy. Bradford rode the Prince well and waited until the last few strides before he struck him with the whip. Hub Prather also did much better than he did in his la6t race, and with a stronger boy up could not have lost. He is heavy-headed and Tally could not help him to any great extent when the pinch came. Macy had clear sailing and no complaint could be made about the ride Bergen gave him. The race was always between the first three.
