MALAY WINS A GOOD KACH Pasty mud in generous quantities prevailed at Washington Park yesterday and horses that favor deep holding going were very much in evidence The attendance as usual was large largeThe The feature event of the day was the fourth race a handicap for threeyearolds and up ¬ ward 1400 added at one and onesixteenth miles Much interest was taken out of the event by the declaring of Pink Coat who was regarded by many as having the best chance to win Sidney Lucas the American Derby win ¬ ner of 1900 made his first appearance in the west this year in this race but failed to display any of his 1900 quality finishing a dismal and beaten off last The winner turned up in Dr Bowells good gelding Malay who reveled in the going He laid along second to Sidney Lucas for half a mile and then darted to the lead wheeling into the stretch looking ell over an easy winner but in the last sixteenth had to be shaken up to offset Boiling Boors dashing bid in the last fifty yards The latter has shown much improvement in his last two races and will bo a hard horse to beat when placed right Wild Pirate showed his liking for heavy going by running an excellent race finishing well up Walkonshaw in going made to his order was run into exhaustion after showing well for seven furlongs He looked stiff and sore going to the post George Arnold although not particularly fond of the footing showed prominently for seven furlongs Montanic who ran some clever races in Cali ¬ fornia last winter was pitted against Ynlcain in the second race a dash of six furlongs but the latter after being outrun to the head of the stretch wore down the Ellison gelding in the last quarter and beat him rather handily at the eudi BiatorjMamie the other starter was never a contender contenderTrinity Trinity Bell fell an easy victim to Eddie Jones in the opening event the California horse win ¬ ning as he pleased pleasedSilurian Silurian i after showing several poor races was placed right at last and favored by the going took the closing race of the day in rather a handy fashion from South Breeze with Aetor an indifferent third South Breeze threw Jockey Woods while scoring and ran away about a quarter of a mile This might have been thelcause of her defeat
