HABIJEBVF SECOND DAY A crowd almost as large as Mondays went o t to Baric m yesterday attracted by the splendid card as well ae the balmy weather The port nee tip top throughout the afternoon thoroughly enjoyed by tbe spectators No stake or feature event was on tbe program the best race of tbe day being tbe third a mile and a sixteenth affair for threeyearolds and up ¬ ward Tbe improving Canmore was made a red bot favorite and justified tbe confidence placed in bin by the public by winning hands down It was only an exercise gal ¬ lop for tbe Jecnicgs colt uhich ran in front for tbe entire journey Be led at the quarter ly one lergth with Kncja second almost two in front of Brutal Precursor and Amur CTcn at thia early stage of the proceedings were hopelessly out of tbe contest At the half the ion of Midlothian bad increased his ad ¬ vantage to alneost three lengths with Ennja still a half in the lead of brutal Little change took place in these positions until in the last eighth where Brutal finally succeeded in pass ioff KntJB more onhis own courage than any effort of his jockey beating her a length for second plare Canmore won eaeed up by two and a half lengths Amur ran a dull race while Precursor was sadly outrun from start to finish finishAll All interest in tbe fourth race was completely spoiled by Telamoa which taling the bit in his monlh at tbe first breakaway ran away three miles at full speed little Meade who had the mount beingunable to check the heavy headed celt This WBB the first time the son of Hanover bad faced tbe flag since last winter After this mishap it appeared like a cakewalk for Six Bhcoterbut bis backers got a bad scare in the last eighth Argregor hanging on with crest gcmeneEs and compelling Knight to urge the BtspBss colt to the limit to defeat him Henry Bnrt closely accompanif d by Argregor showed tbe way to tbe run in with Six Shooter about two lengths away Straightening for hone the last named closed closedcausing causing fast Henry Bnrt to give it up Everybody was now prepar ¬ ing to preet tbe son of Sir Dixon an easy win ¬ ner but Argregor was not to be easily shaken off In tbe last sixteenth Knight urged his nount to tbe utmost finally crossing the line a half length in the lead The Boots colt showed great ganenees in the last eighth and put up a foirtperforrnance Henry Bnrt was beaten coven lergtbe for the eecond position positionThat That consistent little filly Julia Junkin car lied off tbe fifth race in a somewhat handy fashion Mabel Winn which has shown great speed in nearly every race she has started in fckis yeorIehowed the way to tbe last eighth accompanied by Mnreeca with Julia Junkin lying along in fourth position Along in here Mnreecalibad enough while Mabel Winn was Iwglnning to show signs of distress and it was so trouble whatever for Julia Junkin to paestthem winning handily by a length Mabel B Winn just lasted long enough to Wat thet fasti closing The Four Hundred a head for tke second position Parnassus ekowed to fair advantage while Harry Wilsons zaee was almost as good as tbe winners Ha was almost last away and lengths behind the leader before She got well into his stride He madoluptmuch ground while coming down the final quarter and was running past horses at the end With an equal break he would certainly bavo given the winner an argument Blue Bidge ran well zrffor five furlongs and is due for a bracket when placed right rightThe The days opener went to Pat Dunnes Emath EmathTOD TOD who waa about due to score Off well he heBBSHmea BBSHmea an early lead and after shaking off Kavanibmry who had tun with him to the last lasteiffhth eiffhth iwent on and won rather handily by a length from Lnndsoor which beat Pompoy about the same distance for second position The last named moved up fast just before enter ¬ ing the stretch from a poor getoff and appeared to be the winner when a furlong out but the sudden use made of him in the early part of the race must have taken all the stamina out of him aa he had nothing to finish with and was wall spent at the end Landaeer finished stoutly but was not good enough to beat the winner Ravensbnry only quit in tbe last eighth and muat be taken into consideration from now on Hermis was virtually left at the post but ran an impressive race makitg up much ground when coming down the stretch With any kind of racing luck he would have been a keen con ¬ tender tenderThe The finale was won by Gawaine but bad the race been a few yards farther Brief would surely have grabbed the parse Pirates Queen showed the way to the run in where Gawaine which had always laid second oaeilj passed her In the last eighth Brief moved np fast and was gaining on Gawaine at every stride the latter passing over the line a head in the lead Illilouon which was quite tired in the closing strides was third two lengths away Dalkeith showed a good race up to a sixteenth out where he began to hang Monos was mossed in and out all through the race Dominick finding every available pocket The horse finished with speed unex ¬ pended and his race was a good deal better than it shows on paper
