ADVANCE OUAKJD IN FRONT The card at Harlem yesterday was replete with good racing many of tbe best class horses in the west participating in the various events The weather and the splendid condition of the track were conducive to fast time the speediest six furlongs of the year locally being run in the second race when Tbe Pride passed vic ¬ toriously under the wire in 112 The usual large crowd was present and enthusiasm tkroughout tbe afternoon was at a premium premiumThe The moet pretentious race of the day was the fovrth in which three of the best handicap horses of the west contested for supremacy The talent almost to a man picked Veanvian to win but Advance Guard and Pink Coat had many backers The good sturdy son of Great Tom proved an easy winner cutting out the pace to the astonishment of many fur the en ¬ tire route routeIt It was a peculiarly run race the time 154 being comparatively slow Little or no run ¬ ning was done until in the last eighth where Fink Coat attempted in vain to close on the winner Vtsnvian which everybody expected would cut out the pace was evideuily r JdoE to orders lying within about two lengths of the Cariuthers Shields horee until just before the final quarter bnt when he was called upon he did not respond and gradually fell away His rsco was a miserable effort and shows he is in bad form or an overrated hor o To a good start Advance Guaid jumped into the van lead ¬ ing Fink Coat at tbe quarter by a length with the latter a neck in front of Vesuvian The big horee increoeed his lead to two lengths when passing tbe half with the other two lapped It was now expected that Veenvian would make his run bnt tiy as he would he conld not gain on tbe filing horse in front of him and was in distress when entering the final quarter After he had given up the etrnggle Fink Coat made a determined bid to clofo on tbe leader but Ad ¬ vance Guard bad the most speed all through the last quarter winning somewhat easily by a length and a half with Veeuvian seven lengths behind Fink Coat Precursor was never a con tender tenderThe The steeplechase was almost a repetition of Mondays chase Filon dOr scoring again with the greatest of ease First Crest and then Frond was enffeied to mate tbepace but after taking tbe tenth jump f Den dOr was called upon and he csHie away from Frond without much effort winning herds down by two and a half lengths while Frond beat the well rprnt Dick Fnrbar seven lengths for second position The latter ran an improved race end fenced inline stride He runs beet in tbe mud however Alice B stumbled at tbe water jnmp when going tbe second time around throwinglher jockey wellforward on her meek frosa which boielipped off She was running well witbin herself at tbe time Crest went down at tbe Liverpool when going the second tine around Ehe was pretty well spent at the ti e It sef BOB from yesterdays cbaee as if it wo ld be impossible to handicap Filon dOr out of a cross country affair from nowbn with the elaes of junping horses that are running here at present presentThe The Pride has finally rounded into his best fora and it will take a piottj gocd sprinter to beat bin from now on He was pitted against a fair field cf horEis josteidey in the second race and beat them easily daehirg off the six furlongs in 1126 wbicb is tie fastest time that has been nsde for that distance around Chi ¬ cago this year At flag fall Bonnie V a new ¬ comer with quite a turn of velocity shot to the front closely followed by Tbe Pride and Fleuron with the rest of the field pretty well itrang out The Pride moved up alongside of the leaierafter rounding the first quarter and the two ran on even terms to the last eighth where Bennie V bad enough and retired leav ¬ ing The Pride to gallop home the handiest of winners by three lengths Andes was second four lengths in front of Fleuron which just lasted long enough to beat the fast closing Max Bendix a bead for third position Andes fin ¬ ished as usual with a whirl but had no chance to beat the winner Maggie Davis had no chance from where she got off Beauty Book ran a poor race raceMcCbesney McCbesney ran away from his field in the fifth race taking the lead soon after flag fall and holding it easily to the end He won by two lengths from Lord Qnex which beat Com missioner Forster the same distance for second place The lastnamed was tiring badly at the end and just managed to beat out South Trim ¬ ble for third money Lord Qnex made a de ¬ termined bid to close on the winner in the last eighth but conld not gain a foot and gave up the effort a sixteenth out Talpa showed early speed but conld not carry it far The six fur ¬ longs were negotiated in 1 13 which is quite E clever showing showingThe The Ryans doubleshot the game when Con stellator took the last race This gelding has long been due for a bracket and has been backed for a good thing a number of times be ¬ fore Nettie Regent ehowed the way for the first half where Constellator grabbed her and after running on equal terms for a short distance finally moved away leading at the last eighth by four lengths From there to the wire Constellator began to tire and it required all of Ranchs skill to land him a neck in front of Nettie Regent which rallied in the last eighth and finished strongly Chorus Boy was third four lengths away Serrano tbe favorite ran far below the form ha is capable of showing and altogether ran a poor race raceI I Sameleon took the days opener driven out by a neck from Pyrrho which beat Doreen a head with Lapidns lapped on Off with a fly ¬ ing start Winkfield rushed I Samelson to the front and held him there for the entire route In the last sixteenth he began to tire percep ¬ tibly and had to be ridden out to the last ounce to get his neck over the line first Doreen was an oddeon favorite bnt showed a rather dull race She was badly outrun in the early stages of the flight but closed fast in the last sixteenth and was running past horses at the end endJ J J Moore of Tanforaa Park was a visitor at Harlem yesterday yesterdayFrond Frond broke down after the race of yesterday Cobnrn will be relieved of his plaster casts
