in good time timeThe The featurt event of the day was tha Young ¬ ster Stakes at five furlongs with 1500 added The contest proved to be a onesided affair so far as the winner was concerned Ed Austin taking the track at flag fall and simply romp ¬ ing away from his field To a good start he darted into the lead opening a gap of three lengths on Jack Battlin at the first quarter Abe Frank and Vemnon were lapped on Jack Battlin at this point with Gallagher last four lengths awsy Snllivan had Ed Austin under restraint when entering the stretch evidently waiting for bis stable companion but Jack Battlin stuck gamely to the latter and would j not bo shaken off until in the last sixteenth Along in here Gallagher who had moved up fast while making the bend for home closed J fast on these in front of him Memnon having fallen away beaten Snllivan seeing that Abe Frank was unequal to the task of winning ex ¬ cept by taking a desperate chaice went on wiihTEd aetin winning under reetreint by n length Gallagher finished like a rocket in the last bundled jaids and nailed Abe Frank on the poet by a neck for the second position Jack Battlin tired and quit when the pinch cme Memncn was sore and ran far below his trne form After the race Gallagher was bought bj Borne Bespaes who paid 5C0 for him himHad Had little Hicks been able to make any kind of an effort on en Battle in the fifth race two of those in front of him and rnsLed up to Ben Battles sad ¬ dle girth innning alcng with him until just turning for hi me where Ben Battle shook him off and arpeiirtd to Lave things his own way when straightened away forborne In the last eighth Scotch Plaid moved up fast on the leader and get within a length of him in the lact fifty yards At this critical juncture Hicks became rattled and instead of hustling his BHnnt along sat like a statue allowing Bcotth Plaid to HM Pen Battle by a neck on the post Malay flnnisbed third a length ana a balf away Be seemed toihave a chance when a furhnff out but tired in the closing strides MaeGjle wae beaten off at the end endThat That big f en tf Sir Dixcn George Arnold put up another of his Rood races taking the second event in iat er a bandy fashion after stepping off the six furlt ngs in 1 13 flat Fainthearted Bbaip tire flitted to tie front at flag drop fol ¬ lowed by St Cutbbert with George Arnold tfaiid and Vnl Vnlain ain fourth The latter two were almost six lengths back of Sharp Bird at the first quarter bnt the latter was going at too faet clip to bold it Icng and little heed was paid to bis advantage Bounding into the home Etretch George Arnold moved up fast and got within a lei gth i f Eharp Bird and Bt Cuthbert when an eighth out A long in here tha leader fell kick but Bt Cutbbert still bad a little run left in him It did him no good however as George Aincld pamdhim easily in the last fifty yards winning bj a balf length from Vulcain which finished with a whirl grabbing the second position by a letgth and a half from the tiring Bt Cntbbert Boney Boy was never a contender Argregor wae supposed to have a mortgage OB the tkiid race bmt he had to be urged out to the last ounce to beat Anthracite a nose on the j post in a rattling finish The start had a great deal to do with this however as Argregor was all tangled up at the first turn and before he could get into bis stride was almost s ven lengths back of the leader Ha was ridden on the outside for the entire journey and had little left when the crucial test camo Hart D at ¬ tempted to make a runaway race of it leading by a gocd margin up to the last quarter where ho chucked it and fell away Along about the last eighth Anthracite took the lead and held it until nearly u cUr the wire but Argregor managed to get up and nose her out on the post It was as close a finish as the JanbertBosewar affair but this time the judges awarded the ver ¬ dict to the horse on the outside Banish was third three lengths away running a good race considering the weight he carried Brutal was outrun for the entire distance and put up his usual dull performance performanceThe The Byans turned another good trick the good thing this time turning up in Buzzer which won the days opener rather handily by a length at a juicy price The field was about as poor a bunch of youngsters as has faced the flag this year and it was an ideal spot to turn loose a choice morsel Baby Hall led by a fair margin to the last eighth where Buzz r moved up grabbed her and went on b nt his business Whiffit finished third two and a half lengths back of Baby Ball Queen W the supposed good thing from the Bennett stable put np a miserable race and was virtually bofaten off at the end t bowing no great speed at any part of the race raceEvelyn Evelyn Byrd carried off tha honors in the last race winning handily from Haviland by a length with Elmer L third about the same dis ¬ tance bck of Haviland It seemed very much like Haviland when entering the stretch as he had a sung lead of two lengths having been in the van after the first quarter hsd been run but ha tired bad y when a sixteen bout and al ¬ lowed Evelyn Byid to pass him with ease Elmer L w s prcbubly the beft and would no doubt have won with an equal break He met with early ill lack an i was floundering many lengths back of his field while going d wn the backstretch but made up ground rapidly
