- LAKESIDES GOOI RACING. Tho sudden change in the.weather yesterday had much to do in increasing the attendance at Lakeside over the day before, one of the largest crowds of the meeting being present. The racing web tip top in all particulars and well within the pale of form. Three favorites, ono second, one third choice and one outsider scored. The betting was lively, but not quite as heavy as uBual. The principal race of the day wbb a seven furlong handicap for two-year-olds. Lueien Appleby, with Coburn in the saddle, was made an even rr oney favorite, receiving heavy backing. He won in impressive style by a neck from John A. Clarke, but his victory waB owing more to Coburns vigorous ride than to anything else. John A. Clarke closed up fast in the leet eighth, but Lucien Appleby stood hiB challenge with great gamcnesB and in a ding dong finish beat him to the wire. Pronta was third, three lengths back. The last named was the victim of a weak ride or else she would hava been closer up at tho finish. Bragg, which was made an equal choice with Dandola in the first race, a dash ocue around tho circle, won rather easily by two IengthB from Frank M., which beat Automaton one and a half for second pines. Dandola showed well until far into the stretch,- where he tired rapidly. Frank M, appeared to have a chance when a furlong out, but hung in the closing stride?. Bummore victory in the tecond race, a dash of five and a half furlongs, was indeed a lucky one an had Otis on Little Jack Horner paid more attention to him than to Emma M. in the laHt eighth his mount would certainly have won. Bummer got up in time nest to the irrnide sil to win by a head while Little Jack Horner beat Olekma three lengths for second place. Emma H. was right there for five furlongs but died nway fast when the riva came. Autumn Leaves proved to be the bsst in the third race, a scramble of five and a half furlongs for two-year-olds. Bhe ruehed into the lead after the first quarter had bo en run and was never in trouble thereafter, winning by a length from Golden Glitter, which beat Miracle II. tha same distance for second place. Tho last named was made a 4 to 5 favorite, bet tired badly after five furlongs had been run. Eope-dalo ran awc.7 sovoa furlongs bofore the start. After Benckart had acted crazily at the post for some time in the fourth race he was lucky in getting off with a running etart and made every post a winning one. It was a dash of on mile. Eva Bice prosssd him closely in tho first half but after that he had things his own way. winning easily by a length from Beseda, which beat Eva Bice the same distance for second place. Beseda was probably the best but little Dean was too light to make her run to her best form. . She closed up much ground in the last half mile. Old Admetus, long overdue, finally scored taking tho laat race, a dash of one and a quarter miles, in eaBy fashion after a sharp drive with Banish down the last eighth. Ha won by a length going away, while Banish beat th tiring Farmer Bennett oae and one-half ir second place. Admetus was lucky to get through next to tho iseide rail In te lasC eighth. Kentucky Babe was right there for one and one-sixteenth miles. Bhe ran a credit- able race when the weight she carried is takes, into coLsideration.
