NOTES OF THE TOR. For sire and son to mset in the same race is a novelty, and it is not recalled that it has ever happened on the running turf before November 12 at Oakland, Cal., where, in the sixth race, El Orients, bay colt, 3, by San Venado-Orange Leaf, won. His Bire, San Venado, brown horse, 6. by Duncombe Lizzie B., by Hindoo, was favorite for the race at 7 to 5, but finished next to last in a field of nine. J. B. Haggin, Elmendorf Stud, Kentucky, and Bancho Del Paso Btud, California, has recently purchased through his agent, John Mackey, the English stallion Gerolstein, brown horse, foaled 1895, by Bt. Serf Geraldine, by Barcaldine, out of Lucy Ashton, by Lammermoor, etc. Gerol-i eteinwas a good racehorse and his breading should make him a desirable addition to Mr. Haggins list of stallions. Jockey Lucien Lyno, who has been riding at Latonia, is attracting the attention of Bonnings owners. He received two messages last Friday at Cincinnati requesting his sorvices at the eastern track, but he has engagod with Bobert Walden for the New Orloans meeting, and will not go olEowhere. Cincinnati papers are beginning to kick about form reversals at Latonia. Great stress was laid upon the poor showings of Lady Brockway and Noise Morris last Friday. The formers poor effort was foreshadowed by the betting, which went from 3 to 2 to 3 to 1 by pest time. Owner Bill Daly iB btginning to surprise the talent at Bennings by putting jockeys on his horses instead of inexperienced lads. Last Monday he put Burns on Locket, to the amaze-jnent of all hands.
