NOTES OF THE TURF. Master Mariner is running at New Orleans nowhere near the form he showed here last fall. He ran second yesterday and may be rounding to. When at his bast he is a usef al animal over a fast track at any distance up to Biz and a half furlongs. G. W. Pooles old standby Admetus won the longdistance race at New Orleans yesterday. The gelding runs at one gait throughout a race and appears to be of little account oxcept over a distance of ground. " Patsy" Freeman, the jockey, has not made up his mind as yet as to what be will do next season. He rode with succtss in France last year, but is back again visiting friends and relatives in Kentucky. The two-year-old colt Schwarzwald, by Sain Ellen, which made its appearance at Frisco last week, belongB to Barney Schreiber. He is said to have shown considerable speed and stamina. The Detroit papers say that there will be a spring meeting at Highland Park, notwithstanding the fact that it was not allotted dates by the Western Jockey Club. Jockey Charles Vandusen will report to Trainer James Dyer at Budapest March 15. "Grandpa" should be a success in Austria. Trainer W. H. Earrickbas left New York with a car load of selling platers and handicap horses, which he will race at New Orleans. Cash Sloan, the jockey, is now at New Orleans, where he will remain until February and then return to France. In the meantime he will accept a few mounts. Fleuron 1b showing to much better advantage at New Orleans than he Bhowid here this year. He has two good races to his credit at the Cras-cent City already. Buchanan will leave California for the east soon after January 1, to resume his position with Mr. Yanderbilt. Jockey Tom Kane has left Cincinnati -for Charleston, B. C, where he will ride during the meeting there. Tom Burns who is now in San Francisco, California, says he will be able to ride in a few days.
