SCHORRS HORSES HORSESJohn John W Schorr the Memphis owner who has suc ¬ cessfully campaigned a stable of horsey for several years recently stated that he had never made a dol ¬ lar out of the business It has been estimated that the Schorr racers dur ¬ ing a period of seven years have won in purses stakes and over night handicaps over 100000 yet so large lias been the expense of maintaining a racing establishment that the senior Schorr is sincere in his statement that his dividends from the runners have not netted him a dollar In pleasure however the local man has enriched himself to such an ex ¬ tent that his confession was made without a grum ¬ ble or kick of any kind kindHorses Horses of the aged division which have raced in Schorr silk may be counted on ones fingers The stable has ndver been strong in equine timber of the handicap class but in twoyearolds and three yearolds it has contributed some of the stellar performers of the American turf The first Derby added to the Schorr coffers was the Crescent City Derby of 1897 won by Meadowthorpe Meadow thorpes success was followed the next year by Presbyterians in the New Orleans classic classicLieber Lieber Karl won the 1898 Tennessee Derby Joe Frey proved the victor in the California Derby of 1901 and Sam Phillips won the St Louis Derby in 1900 followed by Silverdale who captured the St Louis Derby last year The twoyearold perform ¬ ances of Alard Scheck F W Erode and Lady Schorr are full of victories but in handicap horses the Schorr colors have never shono to any great ex ¬ tent tentLike Like previous seasons campaigners this years Schorr string will be bereft of cracks in the all aged division Lady Schorr which has not started since her breakdown just prior to the running of the American Derby last year and Silverdale which has not started since he finished in the ruck behind Robert Waddoll the American Derby victor will be the best in the Schorr division this year yearOf Of the threeyearolds there are many colts and fillies which have yet to show their racing prowess and seven maidens arc among the number Last years crop of twoyearolds while it was productive of the greatest filly of the year Endurance by Right was not as successful as other collections of youngsters sent from the Memphis training ground Daily America
