GOSSIP OF THE TURF Gen Frederick C McLewee and James Brady the owners of Gold Heels have subscribed to the Saratoga Special the great 1000 subscription event of the Saratoga Associations midsummer calendar and their accession swells the total num ¬ ber of subscriptions to twentytwo only one behind last year That last years record of twentythree will bo reached and passed the managers of the Saratoga Association are confident because A H D H Morris and John Sanford two of last years subscribers with big strings of promising twoyear olds this season have not yet been heard from and it is confidently expected that they will reenter the pool Also subscriptions are looked for from the Clydes of Philadelphia Henry T Oxnard and Wil ¬ liam Easton and Adolph Spreckels Mr Oxnard in ¬ deed has said that he intended to enter There is ample time The race will not close until the 10th and a letter expressing a willingness to enter bear ¬ ing a postmark of midnight on that date will be certain of acceptance There are a sufficient num ¬ ber of subscribers already to give the race with twelve starters a value of 17000 in cash and to make it as it was last year the best special for twoyearolds after the Futurity in the country Twelve starters is a conservative prophecy in a race like the special It is purely a sportsmans affair and every nominator will make a particular effort to be represented Daily America The Montana Jockey Club is making great pre ¬ parations for the coming summer meeting at Butto and Anaconda A flattering offer has been made to Joseph Murphy to act as presiding judge and he may possibly accept The meeting is to begin in June and twelve stake events will be distributed throughout the season varying from 800 to 1500 The following are the weights in the Carter Handicap for threeyearolds and upward seven furlongs to be run for at Aqueduct on Tuesday Horses HorsesRoehampton Roehampton Irritable Unmasked The Puritan Potente Colonel Padden Mischievous Charentus McAddie The Regent Kinnikinnick Redpath Cervera Ben Mac Dhui DhuiAllGold AllGold Margraviate Contend Horses HorsesEthics Ethics Petrall Morokanta Bon Mot Delagoa Jack Demund The Hoyden Champagne Five Nations Eddie Busch Enright Tenagra 3 97 Barbara Frietchie 4 96 96Trump Trump 3 96 96Neither Neither One 3 95 95Man Man oWar 3 93 93Himself Himself 4 90
