GOSSIP OF THE TURF TURFMayor Mayor Julius Fleischmann of Cincinnati when bcently asked about his stable of thoroughbreds lid I shall send part of my string to Latonia r the spring meeting there That I consider my ome track although it is across the river in Ken icky My stable always raced there years ago nd as every effort is being put forth by the track lanagement and the Cincinnati public to lift racing t the historic old course out of the rut into which ontinuous racing and syndicate bookmaking ilaced it home pride prompts me to lend a hand LS you know I shall add a cup to a race for two earolds during the meeting which will bo known is the Cincinnati trophy Latonia has not had nch a prospect for a good meeting in many years ind I hope to see my colors first to the wire there When asked whether ho had signed any jockey or next year he said There has been no jockey engaged for me this easoh as yet I think the jockey problem one of hehardest that the proprietor of a racing stable ias to contend with Last year I secured a boy ale whom I thought would make a good rider rat he was not equal to the demand and I was breed to release him Still I hope to have some winners in my barn and as the good boys like to ride winners I shall probably be able to secure one of them occasionally There are only a few year ¬ lings left to represent the stud farm formerly main ¬ I tained in Kentucky and they will be up for sale during the season My entire stable will probably be sold at the latter part of the season as usual 1 do not like the weeding out process and prefer to dispose of the entire lot and begin each season with a now stable stableBesides Besides I prefer to develop and race young stock There is something in the development of twoyearolds probably the element of luck at ¬ tached to it that has an attraction for me meBut But to get away from personal matters I do not think I ever saw a time when there was brighter prospects for a great and glorious season of racing than the coming season promises promisesEspecially Especially do I look for a great revival of the old time glories of the Saratoga meetings of years ago As to the spring handicaps they promise well The weights are well adjusted and I cannot see any one candidate that seems to have the best or worst of the argument on that score Handicap winners are always easier to pick after the race has been run anyhow
