Oom Paul, now in rare form, made his own pace, which was slow, and easily held his own in the final stretch drive and was best. Rockwater ran a dull race, lacked in early speed and was under the whip in the last half mile, but fought out the finish very gamely and just got up in time to win second place. South Trimble, which had trailed the field to the stretch, came at the end with a sensational rush. Igniter tired in the last few strides after being somewhat interfered with. Frnnceeco, which has been working fast of late, was never a serious contender. Belle of Troy retired early and is uncertain.
