Ledus moved into the lead after the first quarter had been run and was never in trouble thereafter. James J. Cor-bett finished strongly after making up ground in the last half. Best Man began slowly but moved up fast after turning for home, came with a rush at the end and would have been second in another stride or two. Kings Court tired noticeably when the pinch came. Lady Rice was badly cut off in the closing strides and had to be pulled up. She bears watching in the same kind of field. The Cedars showed early speed. Overweights Ledus, 1 pound. Money Muss ran his usual honest race, showed much speed and finished strongly. Mary McCafferty ran a good race but -could not shake off Money Muss, and tired percsptibly in the last sixteenth struggle. Golden Rule began slowly but moved up fast in the last quarter and would have been second in a few more strides. Tea Rose III. showed early Bpeed. The others were nevr serious contenders. Off at once to a good start. Won handily; second driving. Scarlet Lily showed much speed and responded gamely when the last sixteenth struggle came up. John McGurk was undoubtedly the best, but was the victim of a bad ride. He was cut off at the first turn and all down tho backstretch, also at the last eighth post, but when he got clear sailing he came with a rush and finished resolutely. Homestead finished strongly after closing up ground in the laBt quarter. Rob-bins was too light to ride The Lady with sufficient vigor and she tired slightly in the closing strides. Edinborough showed much early speed but tired last when the pinch came. The distance is probably longer than he cared to go. I. Samelson ran fairly well for five furlongs. The latter ran his usual honest race and showed much gamnness under punishment. He gulled up lame. Edith Q.. badly outrun for the first seven furlongs, closed up ground fast while coming down the stretch and finished strongly. Frank M. ran a fairly good race. He was pocketed in the last eighth, but not enough to change the result. Gawaine showed truch speed and is ready to wim when placed with judgment. Annie Thompson ran well for seven furlongs.
