i ; i i ; : STAKES ANNOUNCED. The stakes for the spring meeting of the New Louisville Jockey Club have been announced by Secretary Price. They are ten in number, including a new stake for the jumpers. This will be the first time in ten years that a steeplechase has been given at Churchill Downs. No purse will be given less than 00, with handicaps in proportion. The meeting begins on Derby day, May 2, and continues for fifteen racing days. The stakes close on January 15 and are as follows : The Kentucky Derby for 1904. for three-year-olds, value ,000. One mile and a quarter. The Kentucky Oaks for 1904, for three-year-old fillies, value ,CO0. One mile and a sixteenth. The Louisville Nursey for 1904, for two-year-olds, value ,000. Four and a half furlongs. The Debutante Stakes for 1903, for two-year-old fillies, 1,000 added. Four furlongs. The Bashford Manor Stakes for 1903, for two-year-old colts and geldings, ,000 added. Four and a half furlongs. The Juvenile Stakes for 1903, for throo-year-olda, ,000 eddsd. Five fnrloDgs. - - , The Clark Handicap for 1903, for three-year-olds and upward, ,500 added. One mile and a sixteenth. The Frank Fehr Stakes, for three-year-olds and upward, ,000 added. One mile. The Blue Grass Stakes for 1933, for three-year-olds, ,C00 added. Six and a half furlongs. The Louisville Steeplechase for 1903, for three-yoar-olds and upward, ,000 added. About two miles. In addition to the spring stakes above the Kentucky Derby ,000, the Kentucky Oaks, ,000, and the Nursery 8takes, ,000, now closed, will also be run at the 1903 meeting. Secretary J. W. Russwurm, of the NewTennessee Breeders Association, announces that the Cumberland Derby, for three-year-olds, to be run at Cumberland Park next spring, will have ,000 added, making it worth about ,500 to the winner. A new race, the Merchants and Manufacturers Handicap, will be inaugurated, and will hereafter be a fixture of the Cumberland Park meetings. It will have ,500 added. The distance will be one mile. The Carter Memorial will be run, of course, and in addition to it will be two stakes for two-year-olds. Each of the two latter will have ,000 added. One win be for both colts and fillies and the other for filfies exclusively. These five will comprise the staW events, and the entries will closo on January 17. The dates fof the meeting are April 23 to May 2 iiclusivo.
