Meran cut across the track when the barrier went up and Donegan kept him on the path and hustled him along all the way. Ho was doing his best at the end to stall off Major Tenny. The latter finished strongly and was wearing the winner down in the last furlong. Oronte began slowly, but caught Sleepy Head tiring while rounding the far turn, then tired when it came to a drive. Sleepy Head was off well and bad the path, but quit after going a half. Fading Light ran poorly. Uranium and John Carney began slowly and were soon hopelessly out of it. Shandonfleld had the outside position at the post and Hoar kept him on the path all the way. He showed a lot of speed and raced Optimo to defeat while rounding the first turn and came away alone in the stretch run. Optimo was bumped into at the start and had to go to the inside onthebackstretch to get to the leaders and fully rail his race. Atheola was hustled along all the way. Worthington stumbled after rounding the turn into the backstretch and Fuller gave him an easy ride after that. Shandonfleld ran away two and one-quarter miles after the finish. He was under punishment all of the last furlong and outgamed Tom Kingsley when it came to a drive. The laiter was in the lumpy going all the way, made up a lot of ground when round ins the far turn, but tired in the stretch run. Lord Neville showed a lot of early speed, but tired after going a half. Vesuvia did well. Scratched 36624 Lemoyne, 96. Overweights Lord Neville, 3 pounds. The Caxton, show, 3 to 5. Doeskin had no mishaps and was under a drive all of the last furlong. McCafferty could not do Alpaca justice.
