It will be observed that the already superb endowment of the American Derby has been increased "to the extent of ,000 and since the sums sat aside for the second and third horses are not increased over the figures of this year, this plump addition is to go to the winning hof se of next year. Outside of this advance in value the conditions of tho greatest three-year-old race of this country remain unchanged, the entrance and starting fees being the same as those of last year. Tho added money to the Hyde Park Stakes for two-year-olds is also increased to the extent of ,500. As in the case of the American Derby, this increase is solely for the benefit of the future winner, second and third money and entrance and starting fees being unchanged. It is easy to perceive why i these two important stakes will now become more I desirable than ever in the minds of owners. The other stakes remain as this year, but the 1 Washington Park Club will give a material in- i crease in purses next year. The minimumof i purses remains at 00, but it can be stated with i confidence that the number of this value willbe I much less next year than in 1902 and purses rang- ing from 00 to ,000 much more plentiful. The f overnight handicaps will range from ,250 upward. 1 Entries to these stakes will close January 15, 1903, I and that they will be lavish no one can doubt. The t Washington Park Club is firmly intrenched in the esteem of the American racing public and that this I eBteem increases year by year will be amply teeti- s fled to next June when its gates will be opened to a a the vast assemblege that will gather to witness the 1 decision of the sixteenth American Derby. s
