THE CHILUWICK SALE. The attendance at the Horse Exchange Thursday night was a large and representative one, but -while prices ruled fair with certain lots, they hardly came up to expectations. Manager iWaugh was disappointed, considering the many substantial buyers present. Henry T. Oxnard paid ,5C0 for five lots, while W. C. Pallins two purchases coat him ,100. These were the largest buyers at the sale. ! The top price, ,200, of the sale was paid by Henry T. Oxnard for Spanish Match, the royally bred half-sister to the two-year-old winner in England this year, Heather Fire. This seven-year-old mare drew out warm competition between Elliott i C. Cowdin, John E. Madden and James Galway, but i they were all outbid by Henry Oxnard. Mr. Pallins competitors for Dorimere were John Madden and W. S. Fanshawe. The last named stayed in up to ,300. Then John Madden bid ,400, and Mr. Pallins bid of ,500 got her. The VeBpers mare produced a duel between David Gideon and Mr. Pallin, the former retiring at ,500. William Lakelands purchase of the Homespun filly was for W. S. Fanshawe, owner of Heno and Black Hussar, the two-year-old brother to Black Fox. He stood a tussle with J. G. Follansbee and J. G. Hamilton before Lakelands bid of ,400 got tho youngster. This filly looked tho pick of the yearlings, It was almost a certainty that Meltonians owner, James Galway, would bid on the Meetar mare Mar-cella II., and he did up to ,450. But she was knocked down to R. Newport for ,500. Bay filly, 1901, by Childwick-Omladina; H. T.
