Priestlike received a bad start but gradually improved his position, came through next to the rail and joined Gyros in the last fifty yards, and after a hard drive outgamed him. Gyros, under a skillful and lucky ride, was always prominent and held on in improved fashion. Alta G. went wide on the stretch turn and under a weak finish just saved third place. Horatius, away badly, worked a rough passage, closed up fast in the stretch on the outside and was probably best. Dotterel is strictly a mudlark. Won handily; second easily. Impetuous was lucky at the start and indulged the pacemaker to the stretch, where she forged to the front, easily disposing of Tommy Knight in the last furlong. The latter was also lucky, had clear sailing and saved ground by a close stretch turn and stuck to his work gamely. Annie Max received a poor start and was sadly deficient in early speed, but closed up fast at the end after making a wide stretch turn and can probably do better. Legal Maxim finished with a rush. Lady Gallantry forced the pace for the first half and tiring, was crowded out when a furlong out. Overweights Legal Maxim. 2 pounds; Estado, 1. Impetuous, show, 2 to 5. Tommy Knight, show, evens. Clausus, which has the earmarks of a useful colt, was backed by his stable for the first time in ten starts, forced the pace from the start and drew clear of the field decisively when straightened for home in the last quarter. Judge Voorhees was always prominent and ran gamely. Frank Bullock finished with a rush and can probably do much better. Andrew Ring was knocked back on both turns losing ten lengths, which he made up in the stretch. Throw out "his race. Ripper showed up well among this kind. Prestolus, away very badly, closed a tremendous gap, but had no chance. Somenos had scant chance with a. bad jockey. Scratched 36850 Border Mark, 101. Overweights Clausus, 3 pounds; Andrew Ring, 2. Alado waited on the pacemakers to the stretch, where he finished fast after gaining ground on the turn and just lasted long enough to beat Expedient. The latter.under Burns tremendously vigorous finish, closed up fast at the end.showing sudden improvement. Light Ball went unexpectedly well at the distance. Ben Mac Dhui waited hard held on Harry Thatcher to the stretch turn, where, when called on, he flashed into a long and winning lead and finished easing up. Dunblane outstayed the others after a long stretch drive. Harry Thatcher is a greatly improved horse and sustained his speed unexpectedly well. David S. closed up like a shot at the end and would have been third in another stride. Illowaho, evidently short, moved up fast "on the far turn, but tired in the stretch.
