True Blue ran as if he outclassed the field, displayed the most early speed, but tired at the end and had to be hustled along to stall off Whitmore. The latter finished fast and was wearing the winner down in the last sixteenth. Cork began slowly, closed up a big gap. in the first quarter, but tired when it came to a hard drive. Pirate was easily the best and had a rough trip. He was cut off at the far turn and carried into the deep going in the stretch run and Safeguard bumped into him several times in the final drive. Safeguard showed the most early speed, but tired when the pinch came. Class Leader was ridden all oyer the track. He began slowly, but closed up a big gap and out-gamed Duke Dashaway. Flora Levy showed a flash of early speed, but tired badly. Scratched 37756 Don Ernesto, 95; 37825 Springstead, 93; 37825 Exapo, 93. Overweights Safeguard, 2 pounds. Pirate, show, 3 to 1. Dutch Carter, apparently beaten at the half, came with a rush through the stretch and out-gamed Marion Lynch. The latter ran in, improved form. Lofter ran a bad race and can do much better.
