Pupil went to the front in the stretch without great urging, after having indulged Father Wentker with the lead for the first half, and was easily the best and is a much improved horse. Father Wentker displayed superior speed and stood punishment gamely. Priestlike was always prominent and finished fast at the end. Gibraltar went well throughout. Idogo finished with a rush and would have been closer up but for serious interference in the last furlong. Evander ran a bad race. Salver was away badly, but always outrun. Harry Thatcher ran in improved form, led unextended throughout and was much the best. Larry Wilt closed up with a rush at the end under a vigorous ride and ran a good race. Filibuster ran a game race after a hard- early effort to beat the winner. Canejo was always prominent and a strong contender throughout. Greenock, was very lame before the race. Planet, away poorly, raced into the lead and in spite of excessive early use fought it out gamely and won going away. Young Pepper received a running start and was the only other serious contender and an easing up second in the last fifty yards. Tannhauser is a slow beginner, closed up a gap in the last quarter and was going fast at the end, and evidently favors a route. Padua steadily improved his position from a bad send-off. Sir Appleby was well up to the stretch and can probably do better. Amberita failed in the final drive. Scratched Silicate. 107; 37590 Samar, 103; 37S19 Keogh, 103. Overweights Ethel Abbott, 2 pounds. El Chihuahua, apparently outrun for the first quarter, gradually moved up and finished out the last quarter fast and ran the best race of his career and is at present in great form. Miracle II. ran a good race. Jennie Hughes was prominent for the first half, but is a non-stayer. Shellmount was practically left. Barklyite, reserved to the stretch, made good with a brilliant stretch run. Forest King helped to force the pace and stood a long stretch drive gamely, and but for swerving at the end and excessive early use might have won. Nigrette journeyed in the deep going throughout, stumbling repeatedly and tired badly at the end. Snare lacked the speed to get up into a contending position and was probably outclassed. Billy Lyons went a good half. Grail was left standing, closed up twenty lengths, and ran a remarkable race. Scratched 37810Stunts, 96. Overweights Billy Lyons, 1 pound; Grail, 2.
