Athlana was shuffled back after following the early pacemaker closely for a quarter, but made up ground and came fast in the stretch run, winning in the last stride. Blue and Orange fell away on the stretch turn, then came again with a rush right at the end. Counterpoise got away flatfooted and, being forced out of his position, was pocketed to the last quarter, where he finished like a cyclone and was running faster than the leaders at the end. Miladi Love, badly ridden and all over the track, came from a long way back in the last furlong and ran a great race for her. Princess Tulane was hemmed in and pocketed midway of the homestretch and, under punishment, swerved over to the inner rail and was gaining on the leaders in the closing strides. Biserta steadily improved her position and finished close up. Squanto, away badly, closed a gap. Scratched 42510 Labor, 115. Overweights Squanto, 3 pounds. Athlana, show, 3 to 1. Grenade indulged Agnes Brennan with the lead to the stretch, where he drew to the front and, easily stalling off Mineolas challenge, came away in a canter. Mineola trailed the winner closely throughout and put up a fast and game effort and shows steady improvement. Agnes Brennan is a speedy non-stayer and made the running on sufferance for three furlongs, after which she tired and was driving at the end to save third place. High Heels was hopelessly outrun, but held on at a steady clip and finished, resolutely. Scratched 42GlG:Dolly Spanker, 109 : 41051 Mimosa, 109; 425603Reliance, 107. Agnes Brennan, show, out. All Gold ran under restraint in behind the early pacemaker to the stretch, where he flashed into a long and winning lead and won easing up. Ethics was well handled and his speed reserved in the early running and made good with his old-time meteoric rush at the finish. Wild Pirate again went wide when turning for home and finished on the outside going very fast He was pronouncedly sore today and should show improved form in soft going. Lady Potentates preliminary was far from good and she ran a poor race, unexpectedly failing to stay and tiring very badly in the last furlong. Faranlass made the running for six furlongs and the pace was fast. Scratched 42605 Potente, 105. Redfern skillfully nursed his superior speed, which enabled him to last the journey, but was tiring badly at the end and was lucky to win. Dramatist, badly ridden and beginning slowly, steadily improved his position, came out of the ruck in the last sixteenth and was rapidly wearing the winner down at the end. Oclawaha held on prominently throughout and finished a fast going third. Hackensack had a rough journey on the far turn and made up considerable ground in the stretch. Mary Worth got away very badly and was repeatedly shut off and can do better. Potente, very uncertain, ran a bad race. Scratched 425S6 Elsie L., 105. Tribes Hill closely followed the fast pace set by Elsie L., going through on the inside when straightened for home and in a jiffy took a long and winning lead and came home alone. He was much the best and is one of the best horses in training here just now. Elsie L. forced the pace in an extremely fast run race for six furlongs and finished a good second and a long way in front of some good horses. Her improvement was sudden and she should give a good account of herself from now on, even among the best. Mabel Richardson got away poorly and was tiptoed from the start to keep up. She finished very fast, but the distance was too short and she could never get into serious contention. Mabon, at the weights, ran a good race in spite of soreness displayed in his warmup. Lord Badge has had too much of it recently and was always outrun. St. Finnan showed a fair burst of speed on the far turn. Scratched 42627 Grenade, 100; 425592Ostrich, 88.
