Start fair for all but Pure Dale. Won driving; second the same. Jennie Hughes secured a lucky start and was skillfully reserved to the stretch, where she made good in surprising fashion. Bee Rosewater raced quickly into the lead and held sway to the iast fifty yards where, after appearing all over a winner, her rider was caught napping. Elfin King was a keen contender that failed in the stretch run, although luck favored him throughout. Pat Morrissey steadily improved his position after getting away poorly. Skip Mc is fast, but an uncertain non-stayer. Illilouon should improve. Byronerdale was the best class horse, but is not ready and favors soft going and a longer journey. Pure Dale is credited with recent fast work. Overweights Byronerdale, 2 pounds. Jennie Hughes, show, evens. Bee Rosewater, show, 3 to 2. Elfin King, show, 3 to 2. Won driving; second the same. The Mighty broke flatfooted, but closed up quickly and, leading around the far turn, went wide in the stretch and won out after a long sustained stretch drive. Judge, away in his stride and lucky, trailed closely in behind the leaders to the stretch, where he failed in an attempt to come through on the inside and pulled up, then came, around and finished with a rush, going fastest of all. Eugenia B. developed speed and stamina and ran a good race. Elie closed up well in the stretch inn. Durbar unexpectedly fell away after going a good five furlongs. Avenger was practically left and gained rapidly in the stretch run. Anirad. outclassed, was prominent in the early running. Overweights Judge, 1 pound; Instrument, 3; Bombardier, 1. Saintly, a greatly improved horse, showed the most speed all the way and decisively outpaced his field and was much the best. Sallie Goodwin held on in a prominent position to the last furlong, where she closed up well and ran an extra good race for her. Matt Hogan, away in his stride and carefully rated in behind the leader, tired in the final drive after a good effort to beat the winner. Little Margaret was crowded back at the start and closed up with a rush in the last furlong. Father Wentker was badly ridden and ran in the ruck throughout. Pickaway tired after an early effort to get up into contention and is probably best in soft going. Winner B. c, by Golden Garter Iris trained by W. B. Jennings. Went to post at 3:37. At post 7 minutes. Start bad. Won handily; second easily Iredeus, hard held, indulged Bragg in the early running, passed him at will when beginning the final quarter and took a long lead in the stretch run, but required a slight shaking! up to stall off John A. Scott at the end. John A. Scott, away running, was taken back and waited on the leaders under a choking pull, made good in unexpected fashion in the stretch and ran a remarkably good race under the conditions, is a genuinely improved horse and can probably stay any distance. Flush of Gold, a superior class mare, held a forward position throughout, tiring in the last furlong as if short. Yellow Tail, nearly left closed up a tremendous gap in the early running and was in a contending position when straightened for home, but fell away unexpectedly under inadequate handling. Geheimniss ran poorly and cannot beat good ones in her present form. Iredeus, show, 1 to 4. John A. Scott, show, 1 to 2. Grail ran within hailing distance of Lacy Crawford to the half, where she began to lose ground as if sulking, but responded to the whip and closed up rapidly and, getting on terms in the stretch, outstayed the latter in a hard drive. Lacy Crawford made the running to the stretch, put up a fast and game effort and should have won. came again in the closing strides and was best. Gorgalete improved her position in surprising fashion from the half and should make good at an early day. Bill Massie showed his usual earjy speed and again failed to stay. Achilles got away badly and failed after a good early effort to get up into a contending position. Boutonniere, showing sudden improvement and nearly left, closed a big gap.
