Far West, much improved, jumped into the lead at the start and set tlie pace throughout, stealing a lucky winning lead over Rye on tlie last turn. Tlie latter got away poorly, closed an immense gap while running on the outside and, after being carried wide on the turn, failed to get up In the closing rush, hut was much the best. Sir Russell, showing sudden Improvement, maintained an unexpectedly close aiid game pursuit ot tlie winner. Druid, in close quarters, held a good position, but failed to come on at the end. Keator, outpaced from tlie start, was never really dangerous. Tlie Clown was making up ground in tlie last half. Right and True, away very badly, ran a poor race. Oliver Cromwell, away badly, .improved his position gradually, loomed up suddenly with a remarkable display of speed in the last half and won off. ORourke maintained a forward position throughout, putting up a very game stretch struggle to earn second place. Woodsman, outpaced in .the early running, made up a lot of ground Jji the stretch and was coining like a cyclone at the end. Royal Scot got away Hying, was In strenuous early pursuit of the pacemaker?-for a mile and then"fefircd?Paf,fiTtdw "eiwwed brilllantearly -speed and, being badly messed In the stretch, should have lieen second. Artery ran forwardly and gamely throughout. Maxie Witt had no chance with his ride, but finished close up. McKittredge away badly on the outside aud carried hopelessly wide on the first turn and losing twenty lengths, rushed up on the outside into prominence in the middle half and was knocked to his kiiees on the far turn. Misgivings, on the outside, was in close and game, but unavailing, pursuit of tlie winner throughout, saving a lucky second place. Royal Breeze picked his way through on the last turn and, challenging in the stretch, lost second place by a weak finish. Fountaiublue, away very badly, came through on the inside in tlie last quarter, where he was hopelessly pocketed and forced to be pulled up and had no chance as he was ridden. Hamburg Belle from the start maintained close and persistent pursuit of nalifax tremendous early pace and at the end of six furlongs wore him down, after which she came away eased up. Halifax set a terrific pace for six furlongs, was hard held for the first half and had the favorite driving hard to keep up, but his weight stopped him and he only cantered through the last quarter. Census was badly knocked about 011 the turn. Sphinx, on the outside, essayed to make the running, was in close quarters on the turn and finished easing up. Nancy got away badly and can do better. Our Sister, seeming sore and unfit before the race, kept well up from tlie start and outstayed the others in the closing drive. Samson got away poorly and ran wide 011 the turns, being rushed Into an unnecesary lead early, set the pace through the middle six furlongs and tiredin tlie stretch. Caronal, after trailing for a mile, finished fast with reserve speed. Leila had no mishaps and was luckily placed throughout, but failed to make the expected fast move In tlie last quarter.
