McMeekin. making his first season iu the stud at Oakwood. Mr. McMeokins place near Lexington. The first his net were liie foals of 1008, racing as two year olds in 1904. Oat of this crop he got eleven winners. In Pm:."i lie had out tweniv seven winners. 1 twelve of them two year olds. Mr. McMeekin was killed in the wreck at Salisbury. Kugland. July 1 last, and, lo dissolve the partnership. Woolsthorpe was sold at the lasig-TlptOB sale in Lexington last November. Colonel Young lxmglit him on a bid of 00 ."hi this season lie is to l e one of the four private stallions at MeGrathiana. Information as to what Messrs. Young and McMeekin paid for Woolsthorpe in l!««i is not at hand, but that he a cheap horse at .$."itN goes without saying in the light of his achievements in the stud in this country. That he did not bring more may have been due to knowledge that Colonel Young desired to retain him. for in Kentucky there is that called courtesy which oftentimes prevents a mans bidding on a horse he desires when it is pretty generally known that his neighbor and friend lias his eye and heart set en the same animal. However, this may have had nothing at all to do with it. There may have been no buyer at that sale who had a particular fancy for the horse. Predictions are most frequently hazardous, but It is worth watte to venture the opinion that Wools-tborpes 1900 crop of foals will have among them saase dial lug llhlhsd performers, for as a private stallion at MeGrathiana he will be mated with some of the best mares in that noted stud.
