BREAKS RECORDS FOR ATTENDANCE. Tremendous Crowd at Pimlico — Essex II. Scores Another Victory. Baltimore, aid., April 27 -line weather and a superior program bronghl out a record breaking attendance this afternoon at Pimlico. Secretary BlggS said it was the biggest CTOWd seen at the track since lie new club look charge of affairs. In tact ii was much loo large for the present plant and emphasized the need of the new course to be built at Baletharpe. The features were the Klk-ridge Steeplechase tor banters and tin- Oarroflton Cup for gentlemen riders. Mr. Dion Kerrs grand banter, Kssex II., which has been showing so well this spring, had this race at his mercy and won with ridiculous ease. This is a jumper of more than ordinary merit and shows more gameness than Is usually displayed by a half-breed. Tellfare, second choice in tbe liettiug. was expected to give Kssex 11. a battle, but lie fell in the first time around the field. The Carrollton Cup resulted in a victory for Mr. Nicholas, the best am ilcnr rider of this section, and was an event of intense interest to the society folk, who backed their favorite rider without much regard to the merits of his mount. Warning won off by himself, taking the lead soon after the start. Quadrille, the favorite, did not display his asaal gash of speed and was outrun all the way. Will Shields trains both Warning and Quadrille. BeaMes the features there were five good races and all were the mediums of lively betting. Etta Louise, the Hot Sidings filly, which has won twice at this meet ing. was a 2 to E favorite in the first race, hut did not seem to like the going. Sue was outiun by Laudable all the way. Platoon kept the field at tbe Mist in the third race seven minutes. Finally he got off lying and was never beaded. Dainty Maudie showed herself a gixxl filly in the last race. Sydney Pagets lanvas. which was thought to be a good thing at Beaming, was heavily backed today, but again disappointed his following. •■Diamond" Jim Brady CUM all the way from New York to back Canvas. A good program of seven races is offered for Monday afternoon and with Diamond, Belle Strome, Si. Joseph; Laudable. Kick Rose, Awless; Ivanhoe, l-la vigny, Cobmosa ; LI Dorado. The Ch wn. Giaziallo: Kara, Round Bn ok. Amanda II.. Gallant, Idle Dream. Rowling Bridge: Cousin Kate. Anna Smith and Rust among the probable .starter*, the racing will no doubt prove interesting. J. II.
