STEWARDS WARN C. C. MCAFFERTY. Nine Spots Entry Will Be Refused— Jockey Butwell Is Indefinitely Suspended. Oakland. Cal., April 37. — The announcement that C. C. McCafferty had been warned to race his horses more consistently on penalty of expulsion following quickly on the had defeat of his mare Nine Spot, the favorite iu todays long distance race, created a veritable sensatiou among race goers. As a matter of fact Nine Si ot was in uV condition to engage iu such a trying race. Her unfitness was ap parent to the veriest novice both during her preliminary gallop and subsequent parade to the |n -t. she being little more than able to lodille along on either occasion. The stewards went a little further and ordered that Nine Spots entry be refused in future. They also realized after Crestons good race today that an alleged jockey named Rutvvell had done things to this heavily haded lie Annan colt iu his previous-race and suspended that worthy for an indefinite period. Jockey Fischer and several other riders are under suspicion and their work in the saddle will lie closely watched from now on. A greatly improved card was offered this afternoon and superior racing resulted. The betting public also fared well. The feature, the handicap for two-year olds, opened proceedings. College Widow displayed brilliant form in winning this race, first and second choices accounted for the first five races. The last was taken by Judge Nelson, backed down frees It to 1 to 7 to 1. Judge Nelson was ridden by Sandy and had seemingly little opposition. Kokonio, which was suspiciously ridden by R. Davis, was much the best. Perfect weather prevailed and an immense half-holiday crowd was in attendance. K. J. Ramsey purchased Speaker Fontaiia from Barney Schreiber and Tarp from I. Z. Ie Arman. who secured the mare out of a selling race. Jo* GOBS was sold to O. F. Hume. Memorize, the filly C. Heifers purchased from S. C. Hildreth. has lost an eye by accident and was sold to M. Hayes for 00. William Walker has purchased lack Kercheville from .1. W. Blalock. Before leaving for New York, Q. E. Duruell sold lu ahull to U. U. Bedwell. owner of Los Aneeleno. II. V.
