JOCKEY J. LEES REMARKABLE FEAT. Colored Boy Rides the Winners of the Six Races Run at Churchill Downs. T.onisville. Ky., June 5. — Jockey J. Eee. the colored lad under contract, to J. B. Respess, performed the seemingly ini]tosslble by riding the winners of nil of the six races run at Churchill Downs this aftennoon. It is not recalled that any jockey ever before rode all of the winners on a card of six or more races, but •Monk" Overton, while riding in his best form at Washington Park in the early •;ms rode six winners all of his mounts in a card of seven races. Tom BrittoD, who committed suicide several years ago in Cincinnati, had the distinction of having won five races at Newport in ISilfi. There were only five races carded at Newport. Walter Miller at Benning November 24 last won the five races on the flat, the sixth race being a steeplechase. During the last two races the spectators were eujjtousetf by Lees lidinjj uutl alterhis Victory on Wing Thsg in the Frank Fehr Stakes, he was given an ovation. After piloting Fmeigncr home in ihe dosing race, the scene was indescribable, the spectators prolonging their cheers until he had passed the diM.rs of the jockeys quarters. There was nothing ttuky al.out his feat. Some of his mounts were decidedly inferior, and only liis good riding skill enabled him to land Aleneon winner in the fourlh and Foreigner iii tin- hist race. In each ease l». Austin was his opponent, Tin- latter also rode like a demon, but tin- Uespess rider •put it on hiin." Lees aleilness :it the post was re sponsible for his vi. lory on Woolatone in the third and Mattie 11. in tin- second. On Bucket P.riuade he had to resort to a hard drive to wear down Yan-se] and Hollow. The only favorite that he rode was Wing Ting in tin- Prank Fehr Stakes, which featured the card. His presence in the saddle gave the specula lo! s confidence, ami despite the strong support the sharpshooters accorded Lexoline, Beqaeal ami Envoy, the talent .sunk to Wing Ting and kept her price hovering around tin- opening mark. I.ee got Ihe lillv away fairly well. bill, beginning slowly, si,,, was forced i race around the others he lirsl linn. She settled into her stride before going a quarter ami overhauling Lexoline at the half held h.i.i the race safe thereafter, although forced to a hard drive mar the end 1 tsiay Envoy. Previous winners of the Frank Fehr Stakes since 1890 were: IMS, Arapahoe; 1896, Hondo; lsitT. Dn-aots; ls.is. Bstaca; 1899, Batten; 1900, Larkspur; 1901, Chorus Boy; 1902, Alfred Vargravo: 1908, lap lain Ilii.h Bradley; 1904, Henry Pert; 1995, Clum lia Girl; 1906, Hyperion II. Ideal weather and a good card brought out a big attendance to the course. Speculators, other than Lies followers, fared badly, five of the choices being bowled over. The sport was interesting and the finishes in most of the races siiiticii-nl ly close io satisfy tne Bitot exacting. That bet ween Aleneon and Artful Dodger caused some debate. It was the nearest to a dead heat ever seen on any track. Artful Dodger, which had been purchased by J. S. Ward, prior to the race, was boat Foreigner stole into a long lead during the first quarter of the mile and a furlong race, and his advantage enabled him to stagger home a half length in advance of Trenate. W. O. Parmer was among todays visitors. He was en route to Dctn.it from Nashville. He staled that there would positively be a two weeks fall meeting at Nashville if the Foust bill is held lllloIIS!itlltioil;ll. .1. W. Fornian now owns The Gatltly. Miss Alert worked a last mile this morning in preparation for tin- Kentucky Oaks to be run Saturday. Only eighteen boakasekera, the smallest number during the meeting, did business this afternoon.
