January 1".. — The racing was marred loday by a straggling start in the fourth race, the feature of the card. As the barrier went up Mary F. collided with Orilene. unseating the hitters rider. Ampedo. well backed by a tew wiseacres, had all he best of the straggling send-off, but failed to make good, succumbing to Marster. which ran an excellent race, after his backers had almost given up all hope. Douiinus Arvi beat J. It. I.aughrey. which was heavily backed to finish second to Montgomery, for second place. J. It. Laughrey was regarded as the only other horse in the race and the sharpshooters were chagrined when he was beaten by Dominus Arvi by a wide margin.
