NOTES OF THE TURF. Algernon D. Claxon has resigned as trainer of the Brownleigh Park Stable and is succeeded by his former foreman. Edward Nash. Edward Trotter. Mose Goldblatt and J. S. Hawkins are thinking of remaining on the coast this summer and racing their horses at Seattle and Spokane. A. G. Dttnlop thinks First Peep, which finished third to Montgomery and Kith man in the California Handicap last Saturday, will win some of the long distance races before the winter season is over. William Walker has secured the contract on jockey Connolly and will give him the prefereuc ■ over his regular rider. Lycurgus, the latter not having recovered his health and riding form, as Walker had hoi ed when he took the colored rider to the coast last fall. Samuel Lazarus will ship a number of two-year-olds now at his Abilene. Texas farm to New Orleans in the near future and put them in charge of Robert Minton to train. He will bring Right Royal back to Abilene with him and the black horse will go into the stud as a rival of Maey. John Mackey. formerly manager of the Rairho del Paso Stud, is watching the racing at Santa Anita Park for the first time since the mciing opened nt the new track. Mr. Mackey says his health has been much better since he reached California last fall from a summers visit in Kentucky and New York. Silas Veitch has brought Malacca. Alfar, Fa 11a-heen. Champs Elysees. Silver Slipper and Happy Hour to Belmont Park from Saratoga and will take them up for hard training about the first of the next month. The first named is the property of the Boverwyck Stable and the others belong to the Bouuiebrook Stable. Henry Mason has made Phil Rcilly a present of his eight-year-old chestnut horse. Red Knight, bv Knight of Ellerslie— Belle Daly and Reilly. it is said, is hoping he will win the next Breeding Bureau race at Santa Anita Park with Red Knight, thereby winning a purse and getting rid of the old horse at the same time.
