NOTES OF THE TURF. John J. Bullman, father of jockey J. Pullman died at his home iu Alameda, Cal., last Friday. There is considerable talk at Santa Anita Park of the present meeting there being extended to close about the first of May. M. J. Hayes has about decided to breed his three year-old bay filly Memorize, tiy Gerolstein — Memory II., to his four-year-old Sain horse, Johnny Lyons. It is reported that Clarence H. Mackay has changed the name of the Meddler — Won by Wailing colt which he shipped to England last fall from California to International. Paddock judge Lyles has been ordered to see that saddle blankets with plain nnmliers on them 1 are carried by till horses going to the post at the Fair Grounds during the rest of the winter. The four year old chestnut filly Melitah. by Bal-gowan or Dewey — Lady Maud, died at Oakland Mod day of lung fever. Harry Mack, her owner, says the mare has not been well since he took her to Seattle last summer. Barney Schreiber has decided to put jockey Gil-bert up on all his two-year-olds racing at Oakland iu tlie future. Schreiber says it generally takes a grown man to ride a youngster success fully, but he is satisfied that Gilbert is strong cnoiign. enough.
